Brent Primus takes UD over Mansour Barnaoui!
Great Fight! One of the best Bellator main card fights in a long time.
Both of these guys were dead tired by the end of the 2nd.
Barnaoui is fun but this is the limits. It’s why guys like Makhachev, Kevin Lee, and Gamrot were able to beat him. He lacks any type of urgency with the grappling. He can be slick. He can sweep. He can attack submissions, but he can’t do it in any systematized way. Once Primus took Barnaoui down, he realized as long as he was attacking submissions, Barnaoui wasn’t going to try to get back up. And that’s a huge credit to Primus’ engine cause this man was SPENT. Like there were several points where he looked dead on his feet. But he kept going and getting the TDs.
Barnaoui was tooling Primus on the feet. Primus was landing with huge shots ocasionally though cause Barnaoui does not care about defense at all, especially when he’s got an arm wrapped on the neck or posted on the shoulder. But it was largely Barnaoui tagging Primus with the jab or hurting him in the clinch with knees and elbows. That actual best part of Barnaoui‘s game is his diversity in the clinch and the way he’s able to set up pathways for his strike. I especially like when he would wrap the opposite wrist and push on the elbow to lock up an arm and then threw his own elbow over the top while Primus’ arm was wrapped in between. But the issue was Barnaoui 1) can’t defend the takedown 2) does not have clear paths to the clinch that don’t involve him having to collapse into Primus. So Primus was able to turn a handful of these attempts to get close into takedowns, where he gathered top control and submission attempts.
Usman Nurmagomedov vs Brent Primus is next in the LW tourney for the title! Not bad for a guy who wasn’t supposed to be in the Grand Prix.
