OMG new comic is coming along well, it’s a ten page xiv fancomic about being an EDGY and GOTH dark knight bunny boy who’s gotta kill

after the INSANE experience of the first comic (doing basically the entire thing in four days flat out) this one is still a little hectic but a BIT more of a relaxed pace lol

and we’ve figured out a super fun system of collaborating because of how the first comic managed to get made. Together we write the plot, I come back with a script, we thumbnail/sketch together but I like doing the action scenes so take over for those; then Salem smashes out the finished lineart, conjures up divine colours and aesthetics, and composites it together. and I do the speech bubbles/text. The first comic was even MORE back and forth, sometimes I would do the entire page thumbnail to sketch to lineart and Salem would complete the faces to match their style, as the main artist/art director. It works SUPER well, and is really fun, because I love sketching and anatomy and Salem loves style and colours and is much better at finished art.

Then we get a complete story comic that’s a wonderful mashup of both our art and writing and dedication!! And because we’re working together on it so closely, we’re constantly critiquing and offering feedback, and I’m always learning comic wisdom from Salem’s direction.

I. Am. In. Love. With. Bellamy. nerdy question, but what are his stats?

OH MY GOD THIS LOVELY ASK IN MY INBOX FROM SO MANY YEARS AGO!!!! This is a billion times late but I will answer now as an excuse to start talking about My #1 Guy again!!

For current art-related context, Bellamy is my oc who ive been writing for 7 years alongside my bestie/housemate, @jacobin, who writes Indrejk, Bellamy's other half/other main character, and love interest/best friend/antagonist. We've written a billion and 50 original aus for them but recently really got into FFXIV together, and Salem came to me and said, 'I want to write a comic about them as viera bunny boys' and that was how PAWS UP came to be.

SO it's been like, 6 or 7 years since I played Bellamy in the dnd campaign he was originally part of (Curse of Strahd!!), that era of Bellamy still holds a special place in my heart. We got up to level 6 and did maybe two dozen sessions before my DM (who is now my said bestie/housemate/cowriter) had to put it on hiatus because of stuff, but because we loved the characters so much (Bellamy and Indrejk, his god, who was their oc-turned-pantheon-member), we just... kept working on them as original characters loosely still tied to the original dnd campaign, until eventually we took them into a completely original new setting and plot. We've never been able to settle on a name for this story, but we call it 'Canon,' and it's the ultimate expression of our writing and storytelling that maybe one day will finally get to come out of the basement and into the light of perception.

ANYWAY thats the backstory of how he was made as a character! He's very different now, in aesthetics, in vibe, in personality, in the atmosphere of the original story he's the deuteragonist/main pov in, but I still hold a special place for OG dnd Bellamy in my heart. He was originally super Bloodborne inspired, as we agreed to make a cast of super gothed up characters for the game and I was playing it at the time. He was the party's 'healer'/sub dps Grave Cleric, and I rolled him as a sun elf + Unearthed Arcana Revenant subrace. His character vision was that he was an robotic and disconcertingly alien plague doctor who would never take off his mask, and the players, both in-game as their characters AND! out-of-game as players, would have no idea what his true appearance/fantasy race was until it was revealed in game or they guessed the truth: that he was an undead revenant ghost that puppeted an empty plague doctor suit. 😈

I thought the idea of a grave cleric (who were RAW flavoured as seeing undead as abominations that must be slain and returned to the afterlife) who was actually an undead ghost trying to exist in secret among the living, was a really interesting archetype oxymoron.

ANYWAY here's his character sheet he was left off with at level 6!! It's very High Gothed Up for the campaign lololol. Any reference to the Hidden One is about Indrejk, who was the enigmatic evil god Bellamy/our party had gotten entangled with, and who I fell HEAD OVER HEELS FOR as a character, and who is now my oc godson. 💜💜💜

I gotta finish retopologizing it, unwrapping should be *russian meerkat voice* simples and then FINALLY I can put some colour on him

OH and I need to redo his hair because it was a super lazy sculpted blockout but now I’m all about those Bézier curve hair strands

Bellamy is my sad gay surgeon ghost dad who sacrificed himself for Occult Purposes and discovered that Occult God is a real nasty sexy gay motherfucker and is very unhappy Bellamy killed himself actually, and that maybe they should get this out of their system by kissing 😳

This is the best question ever because Indi is Literally The Coolest Character Ever. Like, I love Bellamy, I love him dearly, so much of my personality has been shaped by him in the past 7 years, but I genuinely think Indi is my favourite character from anything ever even if he is an oc lol

OKAY SO FIRST Indi isn’t my oc, I’m kind of like his godfather, Indi belongs to my best friend and housemate @jacobin/Salem​!! In our original dnd name, he was Bellamy’s god he was in thrall too, because Bellamy was basically a warlock with a cleric bandaid slapped over his chest hole LOL

(this one drawn by salem) There’s a long story behind how Bellamy ended up in service to him, and it goes kind of something like ‘man who has no idea who the gods are and WHERE they are desperately contacts Anything out there to help try and save his plague-dying daughter,’ but unfortunately, the ritualistic sacrifice he committed ended up summoning The Hidden One... this terrifyingly Other deity of the unknown, the void, the moon, knowledge, snakes, darkness... OOPS. The fun thing about this was that I, as the PLAYER, didn’t know who his god was actually going to be in game until he was able to summon him (with locally sourced hearts and brains and blood :)) Since then we’ve spent the last several years designing and rewriting our own original story and world for them! Indi is an absent god. He has few worshippers, is absent and incredibly mysterious, and is referred to Exclusively as the Hidden One. Only his closest worshippers are able to learn his true name, and... not even the Hidden One himself knows it. He’s still the god of the unknown, and the gods in this universe work much more similarly to cold and rigid AI programs designed to control reality and their shattered floating world than anything even close to human consciousness and personification.

Bellamy, as a revenant in thrall, ends up becoming hatefully close to the Hidden One, and for the first time in 10,000 years........... he realises that this god is broken. The Hidden One is glitched. Something has happened to him, some unknown thing that even this god HIMSELF isn’t aware of, and he’s slowly coming apart at the god-code seams.... because the truth is, Indi was never created as a god, was never born as a god. He was a mortal who achieved horrific apotheosis, and in doing so, went insane, completely unable to partner his emotions and existence and individuality with the rigid incomprehensible program of godhood.

As the god of the unknown but equally the god of knowledge, Indi is a black hole of information. He has the power to make knowledge of something unknowable, to erase it from existence and from the collective memory and timespan of reality itself. When he went insane as a newly birthed but incompatible deity, he was forced, in punishment, to consume the part of himself that was once mortal, ripping out his core identity and mind in the process and leaving behind a barely functional broken program of a god. 🥰 10,000 years later he has an an allconsuming hunger to fill something empty inside him, but as a god, his consciousness is unable to even REGISTER that he could be anything but divinely perfect. Even the concept of him being incomplete and flawed is enough to send him spiraling in a glitch breakdown. Especially if, say, his naughty little ghostman, who refuses to cooperate, appeals to a sick sense of affection or perhaps, even.... love....

So anyway it turns out that when Indi ripped his identity out he created an open bleeding wound, slowly corrupting this shattered planet into a boiling toxic storm of a gas planet, leaking from the black hole tear he created 10,000 years ago that holds the floating broken continents together, a bleeding wound that NOBODY in the entire universe, especially himself, is able to acknowledge or comprehend because the knowledge that he Actually DID That To Himself has ITSELF, BEEN ERASED FROM EXISTENCE.

And it takes Bellamy to figure the truth out, as they slowly, irrecoverably, fall in love.
