Remember when Belvision Studios produced a Johan and Peewit (Johan et Pirlouit) feature, entitled “La Flute a Six Schtroumpfs” (The Smurfs and the Magic Flute)? Well, imagine if Belvision produced a sequel to said feature, which would be an adaptation of “Le Pays Maudit” (The Cursed Land). It would also have a different title in English, named “The Smurfs and the Evil Dragon”.

The feature would have a handful of original musical numbers like in the last film (written by Ivan Delporte, of course), and the same French actors would go back and reprise their roles. Also, it would be dubbed once for British audiences and another for American audiences (just like what they did for “The Magic Flute” movie before). The film would then be released in 1978 in Belgium and other countries first, then dubbed into English in the UK around 1981 and again in America for 1985.

My latest addition to my Tintin collection has just arrived! 

This is the original soundtrack for Belvision Studios’ Tintin et le Temple Du Soleil (1969, Lateste). It features 4 tracks. Side 1 includes ‘Danse de Jauga’ and ‘Chanson de Zorrino’. Side 2 includes ‘Generique’ (the opening credits) and ‘Ode a la Nuit’. 

The soundtrack was composed and directed by François Rauber, who would later compose Leblanc’s Tintin et le Lac aux Requins in 1972. The songs were written by famous Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel.

Yet another addition to my Tintin collection was delivered today, it’s a beautiful big book this time round (which fits in perfectly with all the massive Disney, film and stop motion animation books I already have).

Belvision: Le Hollywood Européen Du Dessin Animé by Daniel Couvreur, published 2013.

Obviously the subject is Belvision Studios, founded in 1956 by Raymond Leblanc. We all know them for producing the 1959-1964 The Adventures of Tintin animated series and the two following animated films, Tintin et le Temple du Soleil in 1969 and Tintin et le Lac aux Requins in 1972 along with various adverts. 

But they didn’t just produce Tintin adaptations! No, they actually produced adaptations of other Franco-Belgian bande dessinée (i.e. Tintin’s comic rivals) including René Goscinny’s Lucky Luke and Asterix and Obelix series. Belvision Studios is still producing and co-producing series and animated films today.

This French speaking book contains two DVDs. The first is a documentary titled Belvision: La Mine D'or Au Bout Du Couloir directed by Philippe Capart from 2002. The second is Pinocchio dans l'espace directed by Ray Goossens from 1965.

Overall, I guess buying this book means I can’t skip my French lessons on Duolingo anymore.
