So I'm reading through some old 1920s fashion magazines and the illustrations are sometimes gorgeous, sometimes bizarre.

And sometimes they're vampires. These are so obviously vampires.

...every time I have bought something because it was a sensible purchase, I have worn it very little; whereas my irresistible impulses, which seemed sheer folly at the time, have usually been amortized very rapidly.

So wrote Madame Genevieve Antoine Dariaux in 1964 in her book Elegance, and when I read use this passage, I thought of a brown early fall suit I had made. I loved the 1950s swing jacket pattern, but I got a sensible, and dull looking cotton polyester blend to make it in--I know, what was I thinking? That it would wash? -- and the results are, well, bleh.

If I had made it out of a raw silk or some other fabric with a little texture, I think I would love, wear it a lot, and not mind the dry cleaning bills at all. In fact, I have already been pondering how I will rip out the Bemberg rayon lining and make just such a thing.
