Driving north under heat-hazed cloud, that mining outpost beckoned its liminal barrier space between our city as it was and, what? The centre of things? Old cottage rows. Vanished copper. The empty continent – that colonial lie, heavy with a history of blood. We wrapped sandwiches up in aluminium foil to keep them fresh for hours. Ate scones with jam and cream in an antique curio shop by the main…
At the Coopers Alehouse
encroaching grey settles on a city evening the rain holds back another moment as I get off the bus and cross Pulteney Street at the corner of Carrington to buy a pint and sit outside the Coopers Alehouse at the Earl of Aberdeen Hotel thinking of poems to write or edit, decisions to ponder and second guess significances to decipher choices made and mistakes —my own and those of others this…

Rules: share some writing!
I've decided to share the opening of my midterm project from my creative writing class. Unfortunately due to a stupid word limit, it's not that long. However, I got good comments on the dynamic between the two MCs, so I thought I'd share a bit.
From "Final Project"
The smacking was getting tiresome. Once she reached a red light, Mariah tore her eyes to her consultant in the passenger’s seat. “Can you eat that somewhere else?” Ben stopped chewing for a second and glanced up at Mariah innocently. “It’s lunchtime.” “Sounds like you have a problem.” Mariah turned her gaze back to the light. Ben muttered something about Mariah having a “stingy” problem. Mariah sighed. “We’re almost at the mall.” “I’ll be busy looking at corpses,” Ben said bluntly. “I’d rather not puke.” Mariah said nothing as the light turned green.
Mariah and Ben were originally in a script I wrote for my theater class called "Eternity." All I really have for them now is that Mariah is an FBI agent and Ben is a science consultant. My idea is for a potential anthology of the two solving scifi/supernatural cases.
