Namesake Characters - Benoit “Ben” Kench
The Ambassador
I think it sucks for the entire universe at this point. But, it's okay to process things at your own speed. We're all different, man. Take your time.
Ben Kench, Namesake
Sorting Headcanons
The world needs more Namesake headcanons. So I decided to sort the main cast of Namesake into Hogwarts houses. Enjoy??
Emma: Gryffindor. Is this even a question?? She’s a hero through and through. Her immediate response to a problem is to confront it, whether through words or actions. She’s explicitly stated to be more about “doing” than “thinking.” She’s certainly not stupid, but her interests lie in activity, athleticism, emotion. She’s a lover and a fighter. Secondary option: I think Emma is pretty straightforward in Sorting, but if she did end up in a different house, it would be Hufflepuff. She’s loyal to Elaine above all. Her relationship with her sister can be rocky at times, but I can’t help but think of that one conversation she has with SB Emma. SB asks Emma to give up her existence for Elaine’s sake, and that’s what moves her to give in. Both SB Emma and Key!Emma love Elaine... all Emmas love Elaine, probably. It’s a universal constant. (This is my belief, anyway. I find the proliferation of Emmas confusing at times.)
Elaine: Ravenclaw. It’s probably to be noted that I think there’s a certain predisposition for Namesakes to Gryffindor, and for Writers to Ravenclaw. I say that not because of the roles themselves, but because the comic canon seems to associate a personality with these roles. That being said, “You don’t gain a title… through your powers. You gain it through your actions.” BUT I DIGRESS. Elaine is super curious and creative. Clearly she’s quite bookish (though of course you don’t have to be bookish to be Ravenclaw), and as a Writer she displays originality and ingenuity. The defining Ravenclaw moment for me is the “Lima syndrome” thing. It’s such a Ravenclaw thing to do. I firmly believe that any Ravenclaw with access to the internet would go on 3 AM Wikipedia odysseys, as Elaine does. The fact that she brings up this piece of random knowledge and attempts to use it in the way she does… it’s classic Ravenclaw, almost Luna-esque, to try a seemingly odd solution like that and have it actually work... in its way.
Ben: Hufflepuff. Most of what we’ve seen of Ben so far is his unwavering friendship with Emma and Elaine. He cares about them so much, and I love the way he’s pretty much an extension of their family. He basically plopped into their lives and said “I’m not moving.” If that’s not Hufflepuff, I don’t know what is. Especially his protectiveness of them—that’s a trait that is sometimes equated with Gryffindor, but I’d put it more as a quality based in loyalty. Also, Ben was clearly the one who decided they needed to Do Something about Fred feeling sad. He’s super empathetic.
Warrick: Slytherin. Our initial impression of Warrick is very goal-oriented. He doesn’t care about the Dorothy, Jinjur is just a nuisance, Selva can handle her own affairs. He only wants to find Ozma. Even as he warms up to Emma, he’s still puzzling her out and trying to see if she’ll be of use. Obviously his character develops quite a lot after his introduction, but I don’t think it invalidates our first impression. It’s important to note that his problem-solution thing began as a child. Sure, Warrick is pretty geeky, he loves to read, he’s curious, and you could certainly make a case for Ravenclaw, which would be my second choice. But think of his going into the western castle as a child—he uses subterfuge to get Adora to allow him in. And he has such linear thinking. To him, the ends justify the means, to the point of giving up his actual heart. There’s a net gain—find Ozma, keep on living—so he goes for it, and even offers Selva the same immortality. Warrick is a dynamic character, and his Slyther-ness hasn’t been at the forefront lately. But it’s there! So much of Sorting comes down to intent as well, and IMO… Warrick is the sort to ask for Slytherin.
Selva: Hufflepuff. This was probably the hardest to pick. Selva doesn’t easily fit into a single category. When I thought about it, though, Selva cares a lot about people. It’s just that time and time again, her trust has been broken. She craved Adora’s affection, but couldn’t have it. She worked nonstop to find her brother when he went missing and worried about him endlessly. She didn’t understand why he would leave her or hurt her like that. Even when she took over the east and really snapped, she was doing it to protect Hercilia and Oz. Selva… she’s just always been abandoned and betrayed, and I have a lot of feelings about her, okay?! And despite all that, she has a big warm Hufflepuff heart.
Fred: Hufflepuff. Sure, his role as a (former) card soldier means he has a lot of fight in him, but Fred is by nature a peaceful guy. He’s full of warmth and love and light. As a card soldier, he had his deck. Once he becomes human, he’s feeling lonely and lost. It fills my heart with joy to see how much it means to him that all the Calliope gang wants to be his family. He thrives on his connections with others. Hufflepuff 100%.
Agree? Disagree? Something to add? Should I do more stuff like this??

New Namesake page - Christmas Special page 2
Like a lot of people, Emma is often alone on Christmas and doesn't really do anything for it. Ben is from a large partying family. They eat a lot of turkey and dance drunkly.
