I first played in 2018 (Vanilla), then came back in 2022 (Royal).

Back then, I thought Take Your Time was just a loading screen message.

You know? A cute little reminder to enjoy the game, hang out with Confidants, don't rush the story, etc.

But now that I'm older and in college?

I think I finally get it.

Because Persona 5 is weirdly obsessed with reminding you that time is limited.

Every day matters.

Every choice costs something.

Spend the afternoon with a friend? That's time you didn't spend studying.

Go into a Palace? That's time you didn't spend working. (though I am very AWARE this does not exist in real life)

You literally cannot do everything in one playthrough.

And every day that passes is gone forever.

The calendar moves forward whether you're ready or not.

And yet the game never tells you to panic.

It never tells you to rush.

Instead it keeps telling you:

Take Your Time.

I think that's what I missed when I was younger.

The message isn't that you have a lot of time.

The message is that you don't.

It's to be present for the time you do have.

Maybe that's why the phrase hits differently now than it did in high school.

Back then, it felt like a gameplay tip.

Now it feels like life advice.

You don't get to do everything.

You don't get to keep every friend forever.

You don't get to stay in the same stage of your life indefinitely.

Time keeps moving whether you want it to or not.

All you can really do is decide what's important to you and be there for it while it lasts.

Which is kind of funny.

Persona 5 spends 100+ hours reminding you that the clock is always ticking.

And somehow the lesson it takes away from that isn't rush.

It's take your time.

And by God NEVER let capitalism fool you into thinking that good art is made quick and fast. Because the truth is creative endeavors take a long ass time! Writing a book? Long ass time. Making a comic? Long ass time. Ilustrating something? Long ass time. Crocheting a piece of clothing? Long ass time. Sewing and altering clothes? LONG. ASS. TIME.

Make that quilt and take forever, write a book during your free times and make small progress across three years, make that comic and have nothing to show anyone of it for months on end bc it's hard as fuck. Make your art with no rush!!! You'll get to show it to the world but art takes TIME!!!!
