Yea he's not completely devoid of compassion but he's got some issues with being too analytic and distant, being a man of science and all. It's because Ryan's so hard on himself when it comes to his work that he doesn't see Gavin as a success. Gav didn't turn out exactly how he planned and so even now he's still refining his work.

Hi Aib! I drew that Spooky AU Ryan and Gavin you reblogged earlier today~ I was curious how Ryan views Gavin? Does he have a sort of parental love for him or does he view him as purely scientifically, as in he wouldn't be too upset should something fatal actually happen to him. Also did Ryan know Gavin before he brought him back? (I suppose that ties into what his relationship with Gavin is)

But to answer your question, It's kind of a sore issue with Ryan. He definitely cares for Gavin, not only is he his creation but has also grown to be his friend, even though Gav can be a bit deplorable at times. But Ryan's got his own flaws. A lot of the times he's not really the most considerate or loving of the group and can be especially cold towards Gavin. It's easier for him to be mad at him than he'd admit. A lot of the times he'd distance himself and try to view him as just his science project but to him Gav's a failed one, which gives Ryan his own issues and self doubt. In the end tho if anything were to happen to Gavin he'd definitely care, he's still his friend after all.
