As much as I love Benedict I reaaaallllly hope the show won't follow the book sm. I really didn't like how he kept badgering Sophie to be with him, a la he knows better of what she wants etc, and then Sophie was written to basically kinda give in to him because yh ok she loves him too but, it just rubbed me the wrong way instead of romantic

What I want for Sophie Beckett in season 3/4 of Bridgerton:

- She needs to have wants and ambitions beyond being with Benedict. Yes, their relationship is central to the story and she’ll end up married to him, but if we want her to be an interesting character she needs to have more things to her. Perhaps she’s also artistic and interested in pursuing a career in art and poetry? Or maybe she is fascinated by medicine and healing? She did spend quite a lot time taking care of Benedict in the book, so maybe the show can expand on this.

- The book has some pretty problematic elements: i.e. Benedict keeps pursuing Sophie and asking her to be his mistress despite her refusing. This needs to go, but not entirely. It’s clear that they want to be together, but there’s a better way to do this. So far, Benedict has been pretty much without flaws in the show (i mean i love him literally marry me❤️) but he needs some character development. My idea: Benedict still asks Sophie to be with him, live his bohemian lifestyle with him, but she refuses. He doesn’t understand as that world is more accepting and screw the ton bla bla bla. Sophie gets really angry and calls him out on the fact that he is living in a romanticized world and that he would never really be able to leave the ton behind permanently as that wealth funds his ‘bohemian’ lifestyle etc. I know this is not explained well but I think this could really help calling him and other bridgertons out (aka white feminist Eloise😅).

- I want them to get to know each other on a somewhat equal footing. We already know he’s more egalitarian than his siblings (foreshadowing with madame delacroix and Granville) so I want the progression of the relationship to be focused on moments when she’s not (yet) working for Violet. They can still have their stolen kisses there cause that was super cute ngl😅

- They need to be friends first! Let them share common interests, let them laugh together! They can share fun experiences outside of all the drama. A suggestion: obviously the lake scene but perhaps make it more cute and he pulls her into the water and they a grand old laugh together. After that it’s time for almost-sexy-times😏

- Their meet-cute: the ball can stay, with some alterations. While I do love a cinderella on the top of the stairs-moment, it might be a bit overdone. Perhaps they meet in a more secluded place? Sophie is observing some paintings and Benedict, who just escaped the ballroom for some peace and quiet, spots her. They strike up a conversation, talking about the paintings. He asks her opinion (something that no one has ever asked her) on it. She’s gives a glowing but honest review: something’s missing, it seems that the artist is a bit lost. Benedict is absolutely stunned: no one has been this honest with him in a long time. He gives a witty response (‘I shall have to work on that in future then’) and Sophie’s all embarrassed. This could be a nice throwback to season 1 with Danbury and Granville. The rest passes like the book.

- That one scene: idk how I feel about this: on the one the hand, I’m kind of done with attempted r*pe scenes in period pieces and the ‘man saving woman from r*pe’-trope. However, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it does sort of make sense? There seems to be this overarching theme that they safe each other? Maybe the scene could stay, but she fights them of and Benedict helps her. She pulls a knife on the guy holding her and punches him etc. This could show how she’s not helpless and that she’s resourceful, as she has lived on the streets for a while. Maybe Benedict walks in on the situation and helps her fight of the others. Obviously he can still comfort her cause that’s a still horrible situation even if nothing happened. Idk what to do with this one.

Wow that was a lot! Sorry about that but I’m really passionate about this character somehow! Let me know if you have ideas or if I forgot something!

the thing about how they are structuring the Bridgerton show is that they are inserting much more drama into scenarios/relationships that was not there in reality just to stuff episodes when they can't think of anything else

there ARE romance novels with higher stakes and big complications but the bridgerton series was not generally one of them and I think thats the gist of what will continue to upset fans of the books

- Kathony

- Bensophie

- Polin
