Anyone else get really super hurt when a friend tries to help them calm down while you’re having an episode/reaction to a medication involving super fast heart rate and increased emotions and they tell you in a really harsh tone to shut up and “you need to stop that”????
You really think I can control this? Really?!?! Hello! You’ve seen me in the ER, you’ve seen me doing the medical testing, you’ve seen me taking my meds and you have the wherewithal to tell me to just “stop that”??? Wow.
Just a newsflash to friends and family of people who might deal with this, we don’t control side effects or this any of this stuff. We don’t “turn it on”, therefore we can’t simply stop it. So instead of shutting us down when you can clearly see something is wrong, and then later criticizing us for being off the wall, maybe calmly suggest we take a few deep breathes every couple of minutes or sip on some water. But don’t isolate us and make us feel like an enemy. That’s how you hurt friendships.
