Switzerland had, has and will have always a really special place in my heart. I felt in love with this country. And now just because of the countryside, perfect trains, rails, cities but because of people I met here. People who I called Couchsurfers, than friends and now I can call them my second family. Winterthur – you were unknown city for me, but I am so happy I had a chance to find you!
1st day in Switzerland
I arrived yesterday from Leuven in Belgium and the forecast was not really good. They said it will rain a lot and weather will be just really bad. And as they said, it was really bad weather for whole day. But I did not want to sit at home so I decided to visit Geneve and some more cities. Why Geneve? Because of geyser of course but also because I heard about it a lot so I finally wanted to see it by my own eyes! :)
Geneve
When I arrived to Geneva the big storm was coming. So I did not have much time to see the city but I tried my best. Walked from train station directly to lake Geneva with geyser. It was really spectacular. Geyser was so high – it had 140 meters!!!! The only thing which surprised me was that this geyser was not turned on for whole day. It was working only for few minutes and than it stopped. I met some people who were searching for it and were not sure if they were really next to Geneva lake – because of no geyser. Interesting really.
Lucerne
Weather was getting worse so I decided to move more North. Lucerne was the best option! I heard many nice things about Lucerne. I expected very historical city with mountains around it and what I expected – that – I got! :) Lucerne with all the mountains around and Chapel Bridge over the Reuss was amazing! This bridge was full of tourists so I did not walk it – I liked to enjoy from furher distance. Flowers which were covering it from both sides were pretty.
But whole city of Lucerne was pretty. All the colors, church, streets, food – I simply loved everything and I got an idea to have once in my life here honeymoon! Perfect place for occasional like this one is! :)
2nd day
I woke up early in the morning without any idea where to go today. So I put map of Switzerland in front of me and started to look at it. I found city called Scuol-Tarasp. This city is situated quite far from Winterthur in east part of Switzerland. I searched for some photos from this city and definitely decided to visit there today! Way to Scuol was simply amazing! All the views from train were spectacular – high mountains, long fields, green gardens, typical Swiss houses were everywhere belong the rails.
From the train was seen also Tarasp castle
When I came to the final stop I decided to walk the way to the castle. It was main road but not with many cars – so walking was quiet well. It was really hot day – weather changed a lot. I did no meet any people while I was walking – only one deer. On the way back from short walking I found this amazing red branch and sit there for a while to enjoy this amazing piece of countryside! :) Here are more photos from Scuol-Tarasp
3rd day
Next stop – Lauterbrunnen!
I was really surprised when I told my friend I go to Lauterbrunnen – but they had no idea it exists! How to describe Lauterbrunnen ? I think one of my friend got the right word for it – Heaven on Earth. It is really hard to describe. I walked the whole valley and it was unforgetable journey! Let me tell you few facts about Lautebrunnen – it is valley with 72 waterfalls. The highest one has about 300 meters and runs from the top of the mountain. Waterfall here are one of the highest in whole Europe. This valley also inspired Goethe to write his poem . Spirit song over the waters. And I think it is enought – enjoy the amazing pictures now!
Tips for people using Interrail. You can get with your pass to Interlaken and than you have to change for special glazier train – return ticket cost 15€ but it really worth it. Too bad it is not included in the pass but – the price is not really that bad.
4th day
My longest journey in Switzerland. Almost 19 hours of traveling for one day. But it worth it. Bernina train. For people who love train it must be well know train. This is only 3rd train which was written in UNESCO. And why is it in UNESCO? For few very important facts – 55 tunnels – 196 bridges and viaducts and about 7392 feet above sea level as a top elevation! :) And the highest point of train – the highest train station? – 2253 meters high! And from this train station you can see all these 4000 meters tall mountains! :)
View to the valley where Tirano – last stop is
Switzerland is really amazing country. It is very expensive but also very exciting and beautiful! I will love to come again soon! :)
Your Supertramp!
