“By George!”
Okay so this one is super gay. And super polyamorous
We start out with Betty mad that Veronica ditched her and two of their girl friends to hang out with her boyfriend. A standard tale of a friend mad that her bestie is busy with her bf…and also a very common romance trope, mind you
The most telling thing here is that the other two girls don’t care about this at all. They aren’t even bummed about their tradition being broken because they also have a crush on this “George” guy. If anything, they’re happy for Ron. Betty doesn’t understand why. They accuse her of being jealous- another common romance trope, but it’s made clear that Veronica isn’t the one she’s jealous of. She doesn’t like George, that’s the whole problem. She just wants Veronica to start spending time with her again
This is where it gets polyamorous. Betty explains to Alice that Veronica dating Archie is different than her dating George because Archie is “theirs.” Highly polyamorous wording, especially when you dig into the root meaning of it. The difference between George and Archie is that Betty is involved with Veronica when they’re both dating Archie. He’s something they can share, an excuse to both argue and bond. Breaking up the love triangle is detrimental not just for Varchie and Barchie, but because it fractures the dynamic Betty and Veronica have. This means that Betty is explicitly jealous of George for taking Veronica from her. It reminds me of that one post about the polygamous guys looking for a girlfriend to share
This one kind of covers what I already said but it bears repeating. Betty doesn’t like George, she doesn’t want George. She’s upset because George and Veronica are getting serious and she doesn’t want to lose Veronica
This ending solidifies the gay poly thing bcuz Betty and Archie have the same reaction to Ronnie breaking up with George. They’re both ecstatic that they can finally have her again (albeit Betty’s reaction is more reserved). They both want Ronnie, but we also get a bit abt Betty being excited to go out with Archie again. The love triangle is restored, their rivalry is back in full swing, and Betty is happy again. This little bisexual loser <3
