Cool graphic showing the spectrum of beryl! 🌈💎
Beryls
so emeralds are fleet admirals, aquamarines are diamond assistants(I guess), and morganites are architects/artists/palanquin designers(or something among those) so what do you think the jobs of maxixes, goshenites, heliodors, and bixbites are?(though we know bixbites are good at cutting things apparently)
Maxixe: probably a common aristocrat gem that has the ability to sense and track down anyone if necessary. She’d probably be in charge of gem recovery missions and would also be kept close to high ranking gems in situations where they would be targeted, so they can sense if someone is approaching. I feel like in stature, they’d be around the height of Spinel, and would wear something formal yet practical for the type of tasks given.
Goshenite- a tall, stoic type of gem who are respected across the galaxy for their roles and discoveries as head scientists, mainly from Yellow’s or White’s courts. Their main focus in the branch of gem science would be gemetics, working with light. Lacking impurities, these gems are considered to be nearly perfect, and stand right next to Emeralds (right under diamonds) in the gem hierarchy. Creepy smiling psycho :)
Heliodors: electric, spunky beryls that can neutralize a gem for a few seconds. They would probably be somewhat like higher ranking Rubies, but with a different body structure (muscular but slim, and around a head shorter than lapis). Their powers are able to cause a threatening gem to slow down by shockinf them, but it’s not enough to poof them (unless if around 5 or 6 fused), but they’re quite easy to dodge. They are pretty rare and usually follow/escort elite gems to do certain tasks.
Bixbite: possibly the lowest ranking beryl, with the role of cutting materials that would be used for construction. Their large, singular eye would probably help them keep a strong focal point on what they’re cutting, precisely measuring the degree of the angles.
Me and @pig-warship had fun with designing morganite
Jin's pieces:
Beryls
Reworked versions of Beryls from forever ago, when we thought all Beryls were Aquamarine sized lol. These are just 10 of the main Beryls. From left to right (Excluding Emerald and Aquamarine):
Pezzottaite - The most cheerful and eager Beryl of the bunch. They love to jump into action. They are also the most demanding, as they always want to go on missions.
Bixbite - Bixbites take self confidence and courageousness to the next level. They tend to challenge other gems to fights, big or small. Bixbites are feared for their extremely hard hitting headbutts, capable of poofing a gem on impact. WIth a rockets built into their design to, it makes it easier for them to maneuver. This specific Bixbite’s gem is located on her lower back.
Morganite - Morganites are extremely friendly Beryls. Beautiful in design but sadistic in nature. They manage to get angry while still maintaining a smile, making them even scarier.
Heliodor - Heliodors are fast little gems. They can be a bit of pranksters. It usually gets them in trouble with other high ranking elites.
Maxixe - Maxixes are the classiest of the Beryls. Their only downfall is that they lose their deep blue color when exposed to sunlight so they do not go on missions. They usually ALWAYS need assistance from other gems, mostly Topazes.
Rosterite - Fully functioning Beryls deemed as Off Colors by Homeworld. Homeworld realized these “defects” all came out misshapen in some way so they discontinued the type of Beryl entirely. They never got to see Era 2.
Goshenite - The most intelligent of all Beryls, they are made to discover new planets and stars across galaxies, ultimately responsible for the expansion of the Gempire. They can scan a any star in the galaxy with their telescopic vision and use their gems to project an entire planet. Goshenites are able to summon clouds and use them as seats wherever they are.
Black Beryl - These Beryls are feared all across Homeworld. They do not speak up but can communicate telepathically. Black Beryls can project their voices into the minds of other gems which makes them even more frightening. They never touch the ground.
Headdress of Green Beryls, or We Need More Hats
This fascinating beaded headdress dates to the late 19th Century and was part of an exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago called, “Adornment: Jewelry of South Asia’s Nomadic Cultures.” This piece was created and worn by the Ersari people of Afghanistan and is made of green beryls (beryls include the emerald and the aquamarine), plus coral, seed pearl, plus silver and gold which are arranged upon and sewn to cloth.
These nomadic people did not carry a lot of belongings, according to the curators, but ornamental jewelry signified meaning, including one’s wealth, one’s tribe, one’s spiritual beliefs, and one’s culture. As time has changed the economy of their lands with land loss and industrialization, even adornment has changed. They now wear factory-made bangles (and probably put their wealth into other forms, I am thinking) instead of these kinds of jewels.
Americans have largely given up all but the most functional of hats since the late 1950s when women’s hair went gigantic with hairspray. Tthis headdress reminded me of what we have lost. It also made me think of those few occasions--important parties, weddings--when our dress code allows us to enjoy this form of adornment. We should have more of it, me thinks.

Should I do some fusions with my beryl team to pass the time?
