“Feliz Navidad to you too, Antonio.”
She may have butchered the pronunciation slightly; Margo was hardly an expert when it came to Spanish, knowing only a few phrases here and there, but right now the matter of how accurately she’d spoken that wasn’t a pressing one.
How she’d managed to get this time away from all the festivities at home, even Margo wasn’t quite sure. Usually with Gru, Christmas was such a family affair that she would have been spending most of the afternoon and evening playing games with him and her sisters; which, admittedly, was always great. This year, however, Gru and Lucy had taken some private time together once all the presents were opened; and so, after helping Edith and Agnes set up an extensive and elaborate remote controlled racing track that they’d received, Margo had excused herself while the two of them played.
She’d rather thought Antonio would be around, and she wasn’t at all disappointed.
And of course, she’d come prepared. Margo still wasn’t sure what they exactlywere to one another, but they were very definitely a bit more than friends; and this time, she had made sure to have a gift ready for him, too. So, when Antonio held out one for her, Margo mirrored the gesture.
Not that she’d been entirely sure what to get for him, at first; but the bespectacled girl had eventually settled on something that she was confident he’d like. Fairlyconfident, at least.
“Si. Gracias.” She was getting into the habit of speaking what little she knew of Spanish whenever she was around Antonio; for as much as it was worth when she was far from fluent in the language.
“But, you know, I don’t want you to be left out either.” After all, with his father locked in an AVL prison, Christmas had to be lonelier for Antonio than he let on; though Margo wouldn’t state as much aloud, it was definitely forefront in her mind as she accepted the present from him, then indicated her own.
His smile still remained, as well as his good mood. He knew Margo must have been having a good Christmas with her Family. That seemed to be what this holiday enjoyed boasting to the world; and that was spending time with those you love.
He couldn't just not stop by her place on Christmas, even if there posed a risk of her Father, Gru seeing his existence at their doorstep. It was likewise he in return still didn't care for Gru. However, he would put any misgivings aside for Margo's sake on Christmas. There was always that risk visiting her.
When he handed over his gift to her, he honestly blinked in surprise when she also handed over a Christmas gift to him. It made him grin warmly. It was almost as if she were expecting him to visit on Christmas. Her words only broadened his smile, confirming that all the more true.
"Heheh, you really didn't have to do that for me." He was trying to be modest, but in reality, he was really touched by it. "Thank you, Margo. Thank you very much." He chirped rather happily.
"I actually wasn't planning on staying long. I figured you had a big day of celebrating the holiday with your Family." His glance followed to their window where he could see their Christmas Tree glowing with shiny ornaments, and blinking lights. He'd be lying if he wasn't envious of it, but not a hint of jealousy about it was shown on his features. It things had turned out differently for him, maybe. Instead, he still smiled, turning back to her.
"I bet Santa was kind to you and your Sisters this year. Hmm...Did you get everything you wanted Margo?"
He held the gift from Margo still in his hand, waiting for Margo to open her's first. There was a hint of eagerness to see her open his gift. Inside were a box of assorted Christmas chocolates, along with a little orange plushie with a yellow mustache.
"I wasn't sure if you really liked that little guy since I've seen you wear shirts with his face on it. It's been a while since I've seen the book he's from around." He chuckled softly. "Merry Christmas!"
