Christmastime 🎄
@bestaendigkeit
Upon receiving Roderich’s text that he was at the store, Emese quickly put her plan into action. This Christmas was going to be perfect. It had to be perfect otherwise Emese would not forgive herself. Last years had been...interesting, to say the least, and Roderich deserves to have an amazing Christmas this year.
As quickly as she could, she hung up mistletoe in various areas of their house with the intention of surprising him. Roderich’s affectionate nature was easy to play up especially during this time of year, so her little surprise should go over well. Or at least Emese hoped it would. After all, how could Roderich resist the impromptu kisses now placed all over the house.

Honeymooning || August 2019
@bestaendigkeit
If there was one thing Emese was glad of in this moment, it’s the fact her feet are actually touching the ground. Not that the flight had been terrible, in fact, it was quite the opposite especially with the luxury of first-class and almost being caught joining the mile-high club. Her fondness for flying is non-existent. But, they arrived safely and were finally on their way to start their honeymoon. Or was it continuing their honeymoon? Did the plane ride count?
The fact she kept asking herself such weird and non-essential questions, proves to Emese that she is very nervous about this whole honeymoon. And those nerves were manifesting themselves in her leg bouncing on the car ride to the resort, and fidgeting during check-in. She was sure Roderich was going to ask her what was wrong considering she let him take the lead on everything since the plane landed, but she honestly couldn’t help it. She was truly afraid of something stupid happening and ruining what should be a very romantic and loving time.
That something stupid would probably be her mouth. But, she wasn’t ready to admit that quite yet.
Still, the relief she felt when Roderich opened their door and ushered her in was immense. Now, it was just them, in their own little world. Everything would be right as rain, if only she could stop fidgeting and looking like a deer in the headlights.
“It’s nice,” Emese comments about the room, as she looks around and chews on her bottom lip. Everything was going to be fine, she just had to stop acting like a nervous nelly.
A Crumbling Marriage - 1916
@bestaendigkeit
Her questions permeated the air, and to be honest he wasn’t feeling regret nor was he feeling sorry for himself. There was no allowing for emotion. He was hallowed out now, devoid of all things. Plus…she often hated when he ignored her, so he was deliberate in when he chose to answer her, and when he let her voice fall on deaf ears. It was so much easier to know that she had hated him. That was something he could process. Anything else… anything else would have been impossible. But hate. That was tangible. Hatred made sense. It was all anyone would truly afford him.
“Did he also write that he waiting until I die so you can fuck each other on my standard once I pass?” Roderich asked, his tone deadpan in its nature, crass and agitated as he often was now. He pushed the plate that sat mockingly in front of him aside. He couldn’t think about food, or even pretending to eat. He hadn’t gotten a meal down in what felt like weeks. But was it because he couldn’t eat? Or refused to eat? It remained unclear.
“Okay. Be safe with your travels. I am meeting privately with Conrad von Hötzendorf. There are things we need to discuss. I believe Vienna will be okay with us both not there.”
Picking at the food on her plate, she can’t help but feel like it’s some sort of mockery to have food on the table while others around them starved. Everything about this was a farce: from their marriage to the empire, everything was so easily destroyed and yet hanging on seemed to be the only thing both Roderich and herself could agree on.
Taking another drag, she’s surprised Roderich even has it in him to come up with a retort like that. It was true, she had fucked Gilbert to get underneath her husband’s skin but at the time they were seeing each other it seemed like Roderich could care less. So, why bring it up now? Technically, Prussia wasn’t there enemy currently, and was even providing them much needed support. Perhaps Roderich would always hate the other man for what he stood for, for what Roderich could never be.
“I feel like waiting until you are dead is a little redundant considering you are nothing more than a walking corpse. All I have to do is put you down with some morphine and we can fuck right next to your passed out body. It’s the same thing really,” Erzsi answers with a little shrug and no emotion in her voice. If there was any honestly left between them, she would have told Roderich how she hadn’t slept with Gilbert since before the turn of the century. But this marriage was a sham, and allowing Roderich to think Gilbert would always get the better of him gave Erzsi a little bit of pleasure.
“Vienna could burn for all I care. There is nothing here for me.” She couldn’t bring herself to acknowledge he well wishes because she knew he didn’t actually mean them. It was all a ruse, and she was tired of playing the part.
I Just Need To Hear Your Voice
@bestaendigkeit | continued from here
Emese leans back against her beds head board after leaving a message for Roderich. Her hands haven’t stopped shaking since she hung up, and she can feel the clawing start of a panic attack in her chest. She’s not surprised he didn’t answer, after all, it’s past three am and any sensible person would be asleep.
Still, she so desperately wanted him to answer, to tell her everything is okay, to just hear his voice. Her phone rings, startling her a bit because she wasn’t expecting him to call her back so soon.
“Roderich, I’m so sorry for waking you up,” Emese’s voice is timid when she answers the phone, and she’s not quite sure what to say. “I just...it’s been a hard night. But, if you don’t have the time or need the sleep, we can talk tomorrow.” Giving Roderich an out if he wanted to take it.
