Here’s my submission for the “choglaem” for the #maniculum beastiaryposting challenge by @/maniculum!
For this creature, I was inspired by the anaconda, since it talks about a snake bigger than any other snake, and its strength being the tail (so constriction?). The way the manuscript talks about its powers to create winds made me think it might be able to fly, cuz that’d be really cool 😂
The holghras. I didn't feel like the bestiary entry gave me much to inform the shape of this bird, so I've grabbed an assortment of unsettling parts in hopes of creating an overall unsettling bird.
It's a wader bc they have nesting habits similar to the description, and duck and seagull features bc they have terrible sex lives

Pencil sketch, then lines in Pentel brush pen. Had a little bit of a chance to sit down with this one and ended up doing it all in one sitting. It definitely helped being able to plan the composition a bit more, though as I've had just over a month off the brush pen, I'm definbitely reminded how tricky it can be to get fine or consistant lines (I am aware that variable lines are kinda the point of the brush pen 😅). Anyway this was a fun one!
