Many, if not most of you, have heard of my Mom. "Jon Mom Stories" have become almost folklore, from the "Jon running into the hockey boards and Mom laughing so hard, she cried" to the "No blood, no broken bones, no emergency room rule". These stories depict a very strong, passionate, determined women who raised her kids for the real world. She taught me to always stand up for what I believe in and to never back down. She taught me to work for everything and expect nothing. She taught me to care for others as you would care for yourself. And she did all of this while working full time as a nurse to put a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food in my stomach (and remember, I'm 6'6" so it required a little more money than most to do all that). My mom expects excellence but never demands perfection and now, so do I. My mom cares for and looks after perfect strangers and now, so do I. My mom has no filter and speaks her mind to anyone who will listen and now, so do I. She is the embodiment of strength, faith and love and on this day when we appreciate the women in our lives who raised us and taught us to be the very best versions of ourselves, I can't think of a more fitting tribute. I am who I am because of my Mom and she will always be the voice in my head; pushing me to do better, to be better, to care for others before myself and to make this world a better place.
