Beta in the Park - I’m not completely done with #meettheart posts. There are still two or three characters that I’m considering posting, but for the time being I’m taking a break from them to catch up on some of the other art I’ve been meaning to do. There’ll be a few character design sketches, maybe a fan art or two, and Beta, my online mascot character, will be making more appearances in general across several points of interest If only because she gives me an easy “go-to” subject that keeps me from indecisively wondering what to draw when I want to draw, in this instance an opportunity to experiment with my coloring techniques in Fireaplaca.

Meet the art - This time around, meet Beta 2.0. No, she’s not a Vocaloid OC. In fact I created her long before Hatsune Miku was a thing. Beta was designed to be my website mascot back when the only choices for showing your art were either Deviantart or make your own site. I remember thinking I needed a face for my work, a likable and easily memorable character, like Reiko Nagase was for Namco’s Ridge Racer games. Beta boosted my creativity beyond just drawing fan art because I was creating new outfits every time (she was a model of sorts after all). I even created a short web comic to explain a sudden change in her design. Beta 2.0 became more exotic and refined looking compared to her original form, although now she’s probably closer to a 2.7 but I gave up changing the number because I realized my style was changing more than her design did. Eventually, it became too much effort to manage my own site and Beta was retired for a while. But now I’m discovering new uses for her again as a mascot in my Twitch streaming channel, a visual for my business cards, and potentially being the subject of original artwork designs for print on demand graphics sites like Redbubble or Society6... but not Zazzle, screw that place.
