been thinking wistfully about those gen 2 beta pokemon again and felt like tweaking Beta Octillery a little to make the design feel a little more “finished”, though all I really did was make its shell and helmet into pieces of cracked pottery because that’s Thematically Appropriate and add the neat curly line modern octillery has on its head
honestly as much as i love the Octillery we have today it still feels like a huge loss that they toned down the weaponry theme so much that they’re just a cartoon octopus with a ludicrous movepool instead of a funny octopus tank with a ludicrous movepool
I felt like drawing more Beta Octillery because it is one of the best things ever.
Octillery gets an award for working and training so hard.
I think they like it.
My favorite of the beta designs
A few of those nice beta-mons
Beta Octillery
I could just copy and paste my comment on yesterday’s beta Remoraid post and replace the word Remoraid with Octillery. In fact, I’m going to do just that.
Octillery’s another Pokemon whose initial concept is clearer in the beta design and then gets muddied in the final, for better or worse. In Octillery’s case, the gun/tank concept is barely even there in the final and gets a lot of people scratching their head on why a fish evolves into an octopus. Heck, some didn’t even realize it until the beta designs were leaked!
