so much had changed in the years, so much had happened that has caused her anger to slowly ebb away around the edges, leaving way to every other emotion she had forced herself to suppress since, well... childhood.

she had been praised before, words of ' well done,' or ' good job,' thrown her way by professors, teammates, friends. eris black was no stranger to those sorts of phrases but the one he spoke, it had her quill stopping on the parchment, her sentence left half written. there was heartbeats pause before turning her eyes upon the man.

"i've not done something to be proud of," not to her grandmothers standards at least.

❝ that's ... ❞ remus turned regulus' arm over in the palm of his hand , staring at the long scars that had been left behind . regulus had not told him how these marks had come to be on his skin . remus assumed it was the handiwork of voldemort , but he chose not to ask , or had chosen not to ask at least earlier . but now , with eyes FRESH upon them , remus felt a pang of curiosity .

his eyes flickered again before then letting go of regulus' arm . his expression soft for a moment . he could not force regulus to tell him what had caused them , but at the same time , his need to know && understand what had happened . a brow raised slightly as the other pulls away . ❝ NOTHING ? ❞ he asked quietly . ❝ i don't believe that . everyone feels something . ❞ // @betrayur

𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐀𝐂𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐇𝐄'𝐒 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐍 ⎯⎯⎯⎯ there was never a moment where she wasn't walking around like a clumsy hurricane , too loud with a little to no grace , she'd been working on it , and had gotten better in recent years , even if it doesn't seem like it at times ; but this was regulus , making it so she reverts back to the core of who she was , she couldn't be someone else , not with him ❛ regulus ❜ tone serious , if a little panicked , WOBBLY ⎯⎯ ( calling him that only when nervous , or perhaps angry , reg , reggie ; regulus , it's rare ) ⎯⎯ she crawls onto the bed , mattress dipping under the new weight , a familiarity came with the action that allowed her to do , a testament to just how long they've known each other ; she can scarcely remember a time where regulus wasn't there , it seemed so bleak before . her hand curled around the soft pillow , prying it from his grip in an attempt to look at him , to urge him to wake up ❛ yo͟u͟r parents have been talking t'̲m̲y mum ⎯⎯ ❜ by all accounts , she shouldn't have known about this , the news certainly shouldn't have been broken like this to either of them , but there's a reason journalism is something buried in blood , a passion , something she was born for , PEYTON WAS GOOD AT FINDING THINGS OUT . peyton probably shouldn't have worried it as such , to be wed , maybe . but her mind was working a million miles a minute , unable to form a coherent thought .

❛ they're talking about it , us ❜ peyton hasn't quite figured out the why yet , it was unheard of , but there's no denying that if this was ORION and WALBURGA'S collective idea , there's something the rest of the world isn't privy to ; a game of chess , a rule book only they've read , it was . . . well , it's a little scary , her mum seems to be more put together than her right now , everyone knows the black family ; very few knew who they were and how they think , and still peyton remained in the dark even after a decade ( there's a twinge of fear , for herself , for her mother ; REGULUS WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO , IF ANYONE COULD HELP THEM , MAKE SENSE OF THIS WEIRD DISPLAY , ITS HIM . )

the teenager sat silently at the table, staring at her untouched plate. be it her father’s prison break, or her uncles sudden appearance, eris had found her appetite extremely lacking as of late.

“grandmother kept me safe as well,” at least that had been walburgas excuse for the things she had done, a commitment to raise eris better than she had done sirius- keep her from being even more damaged, and safe from the ideals her father believed. with a sigh, grey hues turned to the man across from her though she continued to fidget with her hands in her lap. “i am not in need of your protection.”

@betrayur 's owl dropped a letter : when i go back , they will try to pair me off with a lady of their choosing . i'm expected to marry for advantage . --- royal ball prompts ( aka. prompts that make river go fucking batshit insane feral with spit dripping from teeth ) , 𝑎𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 .

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐎𝐍 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌𝐒 ⎯⎯⎯⎯ lock down now in full effect , the only sign of life being the littering professors ; either rushing to get their work done or heading back to their own chambers , peyton and regulus were apart of the few teachers lingering , specifically in the dark arts classroom , a place where regulus spends most of his day . the two of them take a moment to recuperate after a long day of teaching ; as if they hadn't spent most of it together . peyton loved this work , loved the kids and doesn't regret a single moment slipping into this career along side her other , but there's no changing her mind that muggle kids would be easier to deal with compared to kids who had far too many abilities at their fingertips , literally .

legs were crossed on top of the main desk , holding a plastic container on lap , filled with perhaps too many chocolate covered profiteroles , something that was brought up from dinner ; initially meant for a sweet treat before bed , now shared with regulus as the conversation turned to more personal matters , her gaze locked on his , a clear look of sympathy falling upon features ; there was always a bit of a shock when her when regulus spoke of his family , the culture that divided them , to marry for anything less than love was unheard of for her , of course she's not unaware of the different reasons for marriage , marriage has ALWAYS been a weapon both in the muggle world and outside of it ; used as a tool for power and control , by the individuals or the family themselves , it was a method that left a foul taste in mouth , that's for sure .

by comparison , her mother always preached about settling down with someone she loved , where the connection was true and pure , to find herself someone to be devoted to for the rest of her mortal life and thereafter , and someone who , in turn would be share those same ideals ; that was all that matters , to weaponize such a sacred bond , boiling it down to advantage and politics , in front of god and his witnesses . . . it was heart breaking , and it made her feel sick as a result .

❛ it might be expected , but you could always refuse . ❜ a naive response , no doubt ; from what she knows of the black family , when they had their minds set on something , it was hard to go down any other road ; but surely , regulus had more control over his life than to be damned by something that could only be described as another version of imprisonment ❛ . . . it's not a necessity , is it ? ❜
