Heyo, Wistie!!
So far, the meanest thing I've done to Shellington is have him be a dogshit driver. Which means that even outside of the Octopod, no one trusts this man with any vehicle.
He keeps begging for a chance to borrow a car or something and gets rejected every time.
He keeps assuring the crew that he definitely won't get into an accident but they know he will.
When it comes to being a single dad, Shellington cannot cope without help. If it were one or two kids, he'd be fine. But a bunch of neurodivergent half fish half vegetable creatures are very hard to manage without someone to keep them in check.
He was so glad that Tunip is the most mature because that makes things a little easier for him. A little. He still needs one other person, ideally a responsible adult, to help out. So he's lucky he has a sister who is also a parent. The crew also show up and help out.
I do plan on having a moment in my Octometic AU where Shellington ends up losing all of the samples and specimens he collected over the years because someone got on a high horse about animal cruelty. It may end up being my OC, Teddy. Because girl will end up trying way too hard to impress Captain Barnacles despite only being an intern and not having the knowledge and experience of the Octonauts. And predictably, this upsets Shellington a lot because even if they retrieved everything, they'll end up damaged due to being exposed to the elements. And on top of that, some of the samples and specimens are species that are rare if not outright considered extinct. So cultivating a new collection is going to be difficult. Probably impossible.
Shellington is usually very sweet and even forgiving but this would probably be one of those rare times, he's outright mad at someone and he finds it hard to forgive Teddy. Things do work out eventually but Teddy probably ends up banned from the Octopod Beta for quite some time.
My favorite Shellington ships are Shellington x Peso and Shellington x Dashi. And when it comes to OC pairings, I am biased towards whatever my friends ship because bro code. So shoutout to Shellington x Betsy (@destroyabez), Shellington x Brown and Shellington x Brown x Peso (@brownyanyk).
That's it for now. I still need to develop Shellington in my AU a lot more but it was fun talking about him. Pretty sure he's my sister's favorite too.
Octo OC August prompts
Days 2 & 3
Day 2 and it's Betsy reviewing some previous field research she had done ! She doesn't often get to do her deep sea research properly so she's often going through others papers and comparing to her own previous research ! [ Hope that made sense ]
Day 3 I'm mixing both prompts cuz I'm bored but Betsy doesn't rlly prefer a way to sleep, she'll sleep in almost any condition and has sometimes been found sleeping in very horrid conditions and poses [ she be wonderin why she has back problems and bone problems LOOK AT THE WAY U SLEEP HALF THE TIME MAN ] & Betsy actually very frequently has nightmares and night terrors, she's supposed to be on medication to help but often forgets; hence her waking up often in the night every night.

Days 7 & 8
Ships/ Self ships (Platonic or Romantic) (or happy alone) ! Ofc I had to draw Betsington for this prompttttttt, In the drawing it's just them heading off to bed doing one of their favorite activities; telling each other about what they discovered that day ! Also adding in Day 7 but in text. . .
Making someone angry/ Feeling angry ! This one's gonna be a bit silly but Betsy often gets irritated at Shellington when they sleep because he has a habit of raking his claws through her hair in the night and waking her up ! Similarly Shellington gets upset at Betsy occasionally because she likes reading through the research papers on his desk !

Days 4 & 5 & 6
Backstory ! This is Betsy when she was abouttttttt 18 !! Back then a lotta the time her style was chosen by other people, hence the straightened hair, different glasses style, and the dress ! She was also pregnant in this picture
Doing something stupid ! Betsy does a lotta stupid things in terms of her job [ akin to her husband ] one of these things was taking a deep sea dive trip by herself KNOWING she was in no condition to do so ! So while she did get to see a species she had been waiting to see she ALSO proceeded to pass out and almost died from it !
Alternate outfit ! This is actually one of the outfits that Betsy was looking at for her wedding reception with Shellington ! Shes still deciding though. . .
