BettaBlogging and Bullying
This is a post regarding the anonymous message we received about one of our moderators bullying, you can read it here. I want you all to know I take these accusations very seriously. As someone bullied through grade school, this is something close to my heart and online harassment will never be tolerated here.
After looking into the issue in more detail and speaking to the moderator in question, I have decided to post about the issue publicly to let you all know how we handle these situations and, in particular, to let you know we will not let slander or bullying of any form happen here.
Especially when this blog is being used to harass and bully one of my staff members.
The staff member in question is Shippeh, @storvacker. Recently, a situation occurred between @theblondeaquarist and @aquarium-love. This will not be a comment on that issue. However, Shippeh thought that an accusation of abelism was silly in context with the post. You can read the full post here.
Shippeh then began to receive anonymous hate messages and harassment for that single post, here is the only one she published. As a note, she has informed me that she blocked @aquarium-love some time ago, therefore she could not have sent any other messages.
After receiving more information, looking into the situation myself, and doing a bit more investigation it is extremely clear that @aquarium-love used my blog as a platform for their bullying and harassment.
This is not the first time this bullying and/or harassment from this user has happened within our community. Shippeh literally made one comment. A single sentence. This user did not only send harassing messages, but slandered them and tried to get them fired from a volunteer position here at BettaBlogging. That is absolutely ridiculous.
We will not stand for bullying and harassment in our community. So, yes, this is a public call-out post to tell you that this kind of behavior should not and cannot be tolerated within our community.
To protect our moderator, we are considering blocking @aquarium-love. This has not been done at this time, we are still discussing it as moderators. However, if this harassment continues, I must do what I can to protect my staff.
EDIT: For the record, this was posted by me, Inac.

Emergencies and Us
Please do not ask us for emergency help. Shippeh and I are the main mods who answer questions. We are both busy individuals and we will not answer, more than likely, in time. It is better to google the answer, honestly, or to use the links we have along the side of the blog.
Furthermore, if we don’t answer your question, it means one of a few things:
1. We are busy. We did not have time to do so.
2. We are not informed enough about the topic and feel uncomfortable answering it.
3. We have answered it several times in the past.
4. We are burned out because we get an overwhelming amount of questions every day (I literally went away from Tumblr for four hours just now and came back with 16 message notifications).
5. The tumblr message system is absolute trash and we’re not sure if someone has answered your fanmail yet and there is no way to talk to one another (at the time we’re answering questions).
Please do not continuously ask us the same question or keep saying “Hey did you answer my question???” Just a PSA.
This is my betta Leviathan. I’m kinda concerned about his tail, it has rather sharp points, and I don’t know if it’s from biting or shredding, but he’s the only fish in the tank aside from an albino catfish who I just got yesterday, so I know the catfish isn’t the cause. Along with that, he has a bit of a kink or something in his fin. I don’t think it’s fixable, just wondering what it is and what the cause of it might have been. (He had it since I got him at petsmart) Thanks bettablogging :3
(I'll circle the kink if you can't see it)
Betta help? (Again!)
My newest betta, Thranduil, is pretty poorly, and I have no idea why.
He's a tail biter, but it's never gotten this bad. He's not swimming, won't come up to eat, and when he does move, it's all uncoordinated. (he's flipping to his side.)
Thought it was just a swim bladder issue, like I fed him too much, so I quarantined him in around 4 gallons, with nothing for him to hurt his fins more, just a little cave rock to hide in. And fasted him for a day. Next day, tried again, but now he won't eat.
Here's what he looked like, around early June.
Here's what he looks like right now:
And he's got like a blue section near his head?
any ideas on what this is??
The quarantine tank I've dosed for 3 days with aquarium salt, and stress coat, like you use for fin rot, etc.
Funny enough, his tank mate, Leon, has the most perfect fins ever. Like, no stress lines, no nothing. So, if they're sharing the same tank water and all, if it was bacterial, Leon would have it, yeah?

Well fuck. This explains it-the water pH is at LEAST 7.6 ppm. How the hell do I get this pH down?? That explains what's wrong with him. kai-ni, bettablogging
bettablogging reblogged your photoset:I SURRENDER! These aren’t great...
Be careful with those decorations! They look a little sharp. Anything that can snag panty hose will tear his fins.
The tree was actually pretty smooth, even though it looked sharp. But it has since been removed and replaced with live plants anyway :) Check out his updated tank: http://flockdynamics.tumblr.com/post/81924732437/i-promise-this-isnt-gonna-become-a-fish-blog
The rock is a little rough, but the edges aren't sharp or anything--I'll definitely keep an eye on it, and if his fins get at all damaged from it I'll pull it right out. (He has a nick in his tail right now, but that was there when I got him--I've only had him about a week)
The Future of Bettablogging
I know I've asked this before, but I am really looking for contributors. I'm entering one of the hardest quarters of my academic career with three classes demanding homework due every day.
You guys may not hear from me a lot during this quarter, and the queue may go empty sometimes. I really want contributors to help prevent this from happening while I'm away finishing up this year and getting moved into an apartment to begin my summer internship.
Contributors would be expected to keep the queue from running dry. This can be through starting discussions about fish care, their own stories/experiences, pictures of their own fish, or simply reblogging things from the betta community.
If anyone would like to become a contributor, just submit your name, why you are interested, and what experience you have with betta fish.
EDIT: All contributors will become staff on that super sekrit thing I keep talking about. They will also help further development and be included in company talks about what is happening on the site, as well as the ability to test it themselves.
Even if you're not interested, boosting this around might help! :)
