About Normalization....
I started watching videos on YouTube because of my insomnia and I found a very cute one about children with their baby brothers and sisters.
I spent most of the time laughing at the children's reactions to their baby brothers and sisters, but I noticed a few details. - Almost fifty percent of the video has white families. - The video tries to be diverse, featuring some Latino families and other black families. - And I don't know if I can call this last detail micro racism or something like that, but I noticed a small detail in the video and that is how black families are represented. I think there are three clips with black families. In one of them you can see a little boy and a baby together and the boy showing himself very much against having a little brother or sister, the other video is of the happy boy with the baby brother or sister but the baby is not shown, and the one that caught my attention the most. The video of the black boy who slaps his little brother or baby sister in the face. Why the video is represented in this way is something that I do not know but it has surprised me because in general it is a nice video but that difference between families is very striking. And I really call it a kind of normalization. In fact, the person behind the video did a better job with Latino families, which are almost at the level of white families, but black families are left behind showing violence and apathy. Traits that have been given to these ethnic groups by a truly racist culture that teaches us since childhood that white is good and black is bad. As I said, I don't know who made the video and I would not want to assume anything, but I think it is clear that the person behind it must be a white person, considering that half of the video is represented by such apparently perfect families . It is not a bad video, but it was a bit shocking for me to see it because before I saw it, my YouTube feed had several videos with racist attacks on black and Latino people by white people, so I think my discomfort is understandable, due to my desire to see something more tender and I come across this micro racism again, I think I'm going to call it that after all, in a video with young children and babies. Hopefully one day society will be more intelligent and open and stop normalizing this type of micro racism that is fucking toxic for everyone, but especially for children because that ends up being a learning given that it should not exist or be allowed anymore
