From last Happy2Chat group… we discussed the importance of being mindful of our emotions/feelings. In this setting, we can use the terms interchangeably. We have 5 basic emotions: JOY (GLAD), SADNESS, DISGUST, FEAR and ANGER (MAD)… all other emotions are a combination like SURPRISE = JOY + FEAR.
Using a different term say for ANGER like mad, p*ssed off, frustrated or miffed can help modulate and empower our response.
Like the weather, emotions/feelings sometimes come and go with no real logic or reason… so it’s better to ACCEPT than to question why?
Here are 4 easy STEPS to help:
STEP 1: Identify the emotion/feeling. Scale it from 0 to 10… the higher the number the stronger the emotion/feeling.
STEP 2: Think of a time when you had a similar emotion/feeling and intensity? How did it go? What did you do? What went well? What was challenging? If you had to do it again, what would you do it differently in response? See above video: The 3 Questions.
STEP 3: Deep Breathe (or DIAL it down) and just do it!
STEP 4: Write it down and reflect! “Lessons lessen the pain!”
