Greetings Chatters,
Does a world on the brink of war got you down, worrying excessively or ruminating?
I wish that a certain country had not invaded... but that is beyond our collective Locus of Control (see below).
What I can do is to work on my inner peace and pray for Ukraine and this in turn will help world peace...
TOOL K can help our families, friends and communities...
I wanted to share these hopeful words from a young (and very wise) engineer I know when we were discussing this article:

Overall interesting article, but I disagree with his take about war 'being a choice'. While it's true that Putin did make a conscious choice to invade, there are larger systems which have shaped the equation when it comes to invasion and war.
He even mentions how wealth has shifted to more knowledge-based, rather than purely material, which is a major reason why countries don't invade others; it's much more profitable to just trade with a neighbour than invade and steal their stuff. Plus, modern militaries are very expensive, so maintaining one requires a lot of capital.
In fact, the Russian invasion serves to support this view; Putin's advance has been pretty much halted by fewer numbers, his expensive tanks and planes (which weren't being properly maintained due to cost previously) are getting blown up by cheap missiles, and the international sanctions are wrecking the Russian economy. Even if Ukraine surrenders tomorrow, it is still a net loss for Russia.
So I believe that we aren't headed down into a new age of war, while conflict isn't over forever, it's not incentivized under the current system of global trade. And as military tech advances further, it requires more and more of an investment to maintain a strong military, meaning fewer countries can do so.
