Betty Parsons was known as the “den mother” to the abstract expressionists. She launched and nurtured the careers of many. She opened her eponymous gallery in 1946 and showed, among others, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Robert Rauschenberg, Hedda Sterne, Theodore Stamos and many others. She was also an artist and worked at her home on the North Shore of Long Island. She was known for her wooden constructions. Paintings like this are rare.
