Oh, but I don’t like that “employer” was translated as “exploiter.” “Never trust an employer” is so much funnier/more cynical than “never trust an exploiter.”

ME NEITHER. It makes the line make no sense! Like, no shit never trust an exploiter, but that’s not what Comrade Perchik is saying! And it’s not like Yiddish lacks a word for employer, so why not just translate the line??

yeah that’s actually how i interpreted that line when i read it! i didn’t even realize people read that line as “here, you can take sylvia” until i started looking into online discussions of the play/etc. but yeah, even interpreted that way, it’s still pretty awful and kind of comes out of nowhere on valentine’s part no matter how you slice it
