Chapter Five Multichapter, ongoing || Beymane, Lawlight || CW for past violence and a generally horrid cast of characters

Two horrible people fall in love. Sleazy motels and neon lights and lying as a desperate bid to be wanted. Misa's cheating on her husband, Light, with Beyond. She is convinced that Light's cheating on her with Beyond's brother, L -- maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but one way or another Beyond's not going to disabuse her of the notion in case she starts feeling guilty. B's got a few ugly secrets which he's not giving up. L refuses to lie to B's probation officer any longer.

He supposes L has a man over. Good for him. He deserves a little fun in his life. He is about to leave and return to his room when the door opens and the man walks out.

The two of you have almost reached the edge of the cliff by the time he's concluded one of his performances on everything and nothing — people would call this rambling but that's because they don't get him like you do: derivative-Ryuzaki might ramble like how somebody walks around in the countryside, but everything original-Ryuzaki says is a rollercoaster, perfectly designed to pick you up and pitch you everywhere and set you into giggling fits if you're not a coward like everyone else is, and Misa-Misa can be a lot of things but a coward is not one of them — but anyway, there he is cocking his head and waiting: he practically lights up when you kiss him in response, laughing, "That's hardly an answer, Miss Amane!"

"It's a reward for being a gentleman," you tell him with a little smirk, "and you know, you're right — I think the sea is romantic too."

"If I were ever to be pushed off here I'd want it to be your hands," he says, so sincere it loops back around to parody at least four times before landing on sincerity again, and you lift his hand to dart another kiss to his fingertips in lieu of saying you know.

HELLO. not to worry not to worry <3 i actually went way overboard with this and ended up w something that is 1.2k and counting so i am posting just This Bit and persnaps i will update in little installments if i continue with it :3 this is pre-relationship, so i'm sorry it's not as shippy u_u imo beyond eventually gives her a little rabbit heart or something during anatomy dissection & imo this is, to misa, unbelievably romantic,

misa's lab partner is— unusual. she noticed beyond on the first day, before they'd actually been paired up. he really sticks out. not in a bad way, necessarily— misa sticks out, too, because this class is mostly pre-health students and misa is a fashion design major— he's just hard to miss. tall, long-limbed, sharp features. sort of unsettling to look at. he's got a face and build that might be good for a career as a high-fashion sort of model, the ones who aren't, like, actually hot, but look weird in an interesting enough way to make up for it. she doesn't think he has a future on the runway, though, mostly because he carries himself like he's sorry to be alive. she really isn't sure what to make of him at first. misa tries to be nice to everyone, because she hates it when people are mean for no good reason and there's usually not a good reason to be mean unless someone makes her really mad, so of course she's friendly when they get assigned as partners for the semester. she also doesn't like it when girls lead guys on, though, so she tells beyond right away that she has a boyfriend. "he's going into biological engineering," she says, proud. "he's like, really smart." beyond just blinks. "okay."
