Whether or not they are actually accurate to the Bible, I honestly prefer “biblically accurate angels,” and not just because they look cool (though they definitely do). I like them better as a concept because “biblically accurate angels” feel more, well, close to God and wise beyond human comprehension.
An angel that just looks like a human with wings doesn’t feel all that impressive. Sure, it’s pretty neat, but just a little too human and down to earth. They don’t feel all that different from humans in a lot of ways. And it certainly doesn’t make me think “wow, this guy is powerful as heck.”
Meanwhile, with biblically accurate angels, you can tell that these things are ancient, and I can truly believe that they are a higher beings than me. They know the secrets of the universe and have seen everything that has ever happened. I truly cannot comprehend their vast power and wisdom, and I would full believe that they understand my purpose and existence better than me.
But it also indirectly makes the concept of God more impressive. These beings who are nearly God-like in their omnipotence and power are but servants to the creator of all? If these guys are just servants, mere messengers, then wtf is God like?!
It makes me feel that that kind of God truly is omnipotent, all-knowing, and greater than anything imaginable. That God truly is everything and has a master plan that we mortals cannot begin to comprehend.
The concept of these “biblically accurate angels” gives such a big sense of scale to the idea of Heaven and Hell and even God, and I think I finally get some of the concepts of Christianity because of that.
