Some Brief Thoughts on BFIG

Seriously, I’m gonna keep this short. 

BFIG was amazing! There were so many games, so many people passionate about games, and just an all around awesome environment to be in. I played so many board games and had a great time meeting other local game developers in the area. 

But I think the best part was that it was a simultaneously encouraging and humbling experience. To see all these different games and subconsciously compare them to mine was equal parts encouraging and ego boosting and equal parts humbling. It helped put into perspective how many people truly love games and game design, and to see so many kindred spirits in one place was amazing. 

It also helped me to plan the next steps for my games. What to do and when to prepare for festivals like BFIG. After all, Spooks and Scares will be heading to festivals soon, and I couldn’t be more excited and nervous at the same time.

Boston FIG Fest 2018 Winners

The Winners from this year's #BostonFIGFest: #indiegames #indiedev @BostonFIG Special congrats to @KitfoxGames, @TheSheepsMeow & @Bomb_Shelter!

The Boston Festival on Indie Games took place this past Saturday, on the 29th of September, at the MIT Johnson Athletic Center in Cambridge, MA.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to be there in person this year, but we were eagerly watching Twitter and awaiting the news of who won this year’s Figgies in both Digital and Tabletop categories. Here are this year’s winners:

It's almost time for BFIG!

The annual Boston FIG Fest is this Saturday, the 29th, and we hope to see you to show off our game Aloft, where you can explore the cloudy seas so close to the stars.

We've been putting a lot of work into Aloft since it was last seen in public, and we think you'll love it. Explore the skies, find resources, build a fleet, hunt leviathans, and seek glory above the clouds.

Plus, Jule writes other stuff.

Alongside working on narratives, rulebooks and other story pieces for our games, our writer Jule has been busy on a few other projects, including both fiction and non.

Her flash fiction piece “Slab City” was recently published in Chaleur Magazine. For a taste of her other storytelling, you can read it here.

In her involvement with journalism, Jule also conducted interviews and other research to write a chapter for the recently-released book Boston's Banner Years, 1965-2015: A Saga of Black Success. The book was edited by the publisher and founder of The Bay State Banner newspaper, and it dives into local history to chart major events and achievements in Boston's black community. It is now available on Amazon and at Archway Publishing.

We're goin' back to Boston!

Specifically the Boston Festival of Indie Games 2018, where we'll be showcasing an updated and upgraded version of Aloft.

Once again we'll be sailing the cloudy seas seeking fame, fortune, and far too large of elementally composed creatures in the BFIG Tabletop Showcase. Last time was a blast, but we're back and better than ever with updated systems, components, and the whole nine fathoms.

So, if you're in the Boston area September 29th, come by the Johnson Athletics Center on MIT's campus to sail the skies with us!
