Nerdy Postponement May 4th 2017 was the first Nerdy Thursday. We didn't notice much that there was a Bloomberg Square Mile Relay happening from 5pm-10pm as we were just getting started. Very excited to announce this upcoming show, Opening reception is during #bgxnerdythursdays May 3rd 6-10pm 192 Front Street NY, NY 10038 _____ Artist: @KamauWare of @blackgotham 🎨 Curator: @ReneeRoyale of @supportblackart ✨ “black inside” is a solo exhibition incorporating voices separated by time and distance into one location. Central to this work are a series of walking tours and art works commissioned by five different organizations that are exploring place, truth, memory, and Black history in distinctive ways. The majority of the collection are text-based paintings that require interactions with the viewer to gain the main idea which operates in tandem to walking tours that call upon place to guide the imagination. This film which was a reference for the Marvel film Black Panther is Based on the true history of Quilombo dos Palmares— In 1650, a group of Brazilian slaves revolt and escape from their sugar plantation to the depths of the jungle, where they join other runaways. Under the leadership of Ganga Zumba the men are able to carve out a place to live, repelling attempts by their Portuguese masters to recapture them. The community is further strengthened by the return of Zumbi–kidnapped from them as a child, who comes back to command their military. . . . The full Program begins at 5:30*** .
