The Black Gotham Experience @blackgotham team is thrilled to have four Brooklyn-based projects lined up for the winter and spring of 2019. We are working with Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, Brooklyn Museum, BRIC, and The Old Stone House in Brooklyn on a series of artistic and historic storytelling ventures that seek to engage creatives who make, live, or lived in Brooklyn; Fort Greene specifically for one of the projects. Nerdy Postponement May 4th 2017 was the first Nerdy Thursday. We didn't notice much that there was a Bloomberg Square Mile Relay happening from 5pm-10pm as we were just getting started. When we found out it was happening today, we decided to postpone Nerdy Thursday until next week May 10th. Shout out to all the runners. Enjoy the relay. This film which was a reference for the Marvel film Black Panther is Based on the true history of Quilombo dos Palmares— In 1650, a group of Brazilian slaves revolt and escape from their sugar plantation to the depths of the jungle, where they join other runaways. Under the leadership of Ganga Zumba the men are able to carve out a place to live, repelling attempts by their Portuguese masters to recapture them. The community is further strengthened by the return of Zumbi–kidnapped from them as a child, who comes back to command their military. . . . The full Program begins at 5:30*** .
