Love On The Brain

I wrote this out for a friend of mine who has love on the brain but I figured I'd share it here as well.. Maybe it'll be of some use to someone out in the ether..

So what I'm giving you is a bit of a crash course but you'll be able to use some of this info for other workings. The most important thing about all of this is your intentions. Make sure you keep your mind on what it is that you want to manifest at all times during this work, whether it be cleansing away negative energy or attracting positive. Remember your intentions. If you need to put out a candle for any reason, DO NOT blow it out. Use a snuffer. If you don't have a snuffer, use a glass. NEVER BLOW OUT YOUR CANDLES. Make sure that at least your hands are clean before you start doing the work. If you can shower, even better. Other than that, WALK IN YOUR POWER!!! You got this. And I'm standing behind you. <3

*Building Your Space* Love Altar: *For your altar you're going to want to add thing specific to your specific needs: -For instance, you may want to add a picture of a friend's wedding (one that's lasted), -a Bible opened up to the Psalm needed for your working (in this case it will be Psalm 47 (for love)), -a red candle of a naked intertwined couple and or two swans in a love shape, -above your candle a silhouette of two people in a passionate embrace on the wall, hearts, -and pink taper candles for romance. (dressed to attract) -Add in a black tourmaline to protect for ill-intentioned suitors. -In a box (preferably gold) is where you keep your love oils and herbs for your workings..

*When you meet your Partner*, -Use an Adam and Eve candle in pink, blue or red depending on the working and support the relationship needs:  -Pink for romance and gentle love for each other. (Psalm 45 and 46 (love, romance, peace, passion))  -Blue or Purple (to repel) for harmony and loyalty within the relationship (Psalm 140 (elimination of marriage challenges and problems))  -Red (to attract) to spice up intimacy or boost passion (Psalm 45 and 46)

(also a small red box of personal significance to your relationship like tickets from dates (or receipts), small gifts and trinkets that bring up good memories.)

*If you are Single and HAVE YOUR EYES ON SOMEONE* -Have an item that reminds you of them -7 knob candle that you burn every day to draw your love in. (Psalm 47, 138)

*HOW TO DRESS YOUR CANDLES*

You must always cleanse your candles before you work with them. Think about it. They have passed through many hands, thus have picked up many energies from many different places and must be purified and attuned to your energy before they can work for you. An easy way of cleansing your candle is by using either Holy Water or Florida Water. I like using Florida Water as it's easy to get from any botanica or even Amazon. To cleanse your candle using this method, sprinkle your cleaner onto your candle. Concentrate on the energy surrounding the candle fleeing from it and flowing away. Make sure you are outside or a window is open when you are doing this.

On top of your candle, inscribe your intention. It can be something like "my love," or "soulmate," or "partner"

If you are using a glass candle, write your intention on a piece of paper and wrap it around the candle or put it underneath. (for your love workings you can draw interlocked hearts on your glass pillar candles (Dollar General has some good 3 day white glass pillar candles but make sure you get the more expensive ones) To *load* a pillar candle, use something like a wire coat hanger that you have straightened out to poke three holes in, and pour your oil/herbs/powders down into the holes. Be careful to not overfill.

For other candles:

-To Attract: Hold the candles in your non-dominant hand and using your dominant hand rub the oil from wick to base drawing it to you. Imagine and feel the energy flowing to you.

-To Repel: Hold the candle in your dominant handle and using your non-dominant hand rub the oil from base to wick drawing it away from you. Imagine and feel the energy leaving you. Make sure that a window is open or that you are outside.

Whew! That's a lot, but now that we've got that out of the way, here's a simple love spell.

Get two red candles to represent you and the person you want to be with (known or unknown (best unknown tho) male or female) or two plain red candles, however the imagery helps with the link.

*CLEANSE YOUR CANDLES*

~Carve "My Love" or "Soulmate" onto the candles

~Dress them *TO ATTRACT* with "COME TO ME" oil (or a mix of "PATCHOULI" and "VANILLA" oils with "SAFFRON" mixed in) one at a time. Imagine feeling desired, loved, and in a healthy partnership with your perfect match.

~Drawing the energy and love toward you, place them on a plate together and make sure they are touching. (You can add glitter if you want.)

~Light the candles one by one, with the one representing you first, and then the other one second. Again, imagine the feeling of being loved and finding your life Partner.

~Read your Psalm (47)

~End with "By the power of all the saints/spirits bring my love to me," (Amen or Ase if it feels right)

The Time Traveler's Bible

The Time Traveler's Bible is just the regular Bible, but read by a time traveler, which by the very nature of time travel changes the history of an object. While this is true of any book, the peculiarities of the Bible make it particularly useful for time travelers to consult for guidance. The Bible is omnipresent in a real sense--it is everywhere, in most major households, in libraries, institutions, and of course... hotel rooms. This always-there nature means that time travelers can almost always depend on it, and thus have almost always depended on it.

Every time traveler changes a book in a different way, but for books that are touched by many time travelers, the changes all compile together, becoming a sort of master codex of time travel. A time traveler will read not the Bible's passages but the changes in them, note the subtle differences in the text that existed in various other time travelers' worlds before any of them touched it, and note the changes that one's own self introduces to the canon. This produces a mental map of many human-traveled temporal variants.

The limitations of this method are largely in the limitations of the book utilized. The Bible is, of course, dominant in its own web of realities, and thus it is unwise to grow dependent on its structure. Other branches of timespace require other books, some require anchors that aren't books, and to access many, many more requires possession of a thing even more daunting for the well-read to acquire:

A lack of literacy.

Not every reality is one that humans learn to read in. There, you will find not just a lack of Bibles, but the utter absence of any books and the knowledge to make, read or write them.

There is no compass that timespace cannot break.

Fist post on this account but I have a theory for all the #workers that use the Bible (KJV + NIV) the Psalms tells us the phrase to use when we need the angels. The rest of the verse is reassurance, what you need us what you say to call on the lord.

Psalms in Magic: Format and Foundations

It is quite common in folk magic to use psalms as spells. I've heard multiple people make the claim that the book of Psalms is one of the best spell books out there. I don't necessarily agree with that, but I do think that there are plenty of ways that they can be used in spells or workings.

There's a common line of thinking that by reading the Psalms as they are, one can tap into the power that has built up within that particular Psalm over the centuries of people praying or speaking it over and over and over again. While I find that thought intriguing, I still find myself frequently struggling to really connect to the words of the Psalms. There's a couple reasons for that, one being that there's a frequent theme of salvation in the Psalms, and that's something I don't feel I need, and the other is that I like to make sure that every aspect of a spell or working is aligned with my intention, and frankly, psalms rarely fit the specific reason I'm doing my spells. There's another line of thought that says that any psalm can suit any need so long as you put enough intent behind your words, but to me that's the equivalent of rosemary can substitute for any herb.

So what is the solution, if I want to make use of the psalms as a spell book, but have trouble connecting with the text? How does one tap into this great spell book if the words don't resonate?

One option would be to analyze the psalm as a whole, figure out the purpose of each section, and then use that as a blueprint for writing your own text.

For this example I'm going to be looking at Psalm 51. I've broken in down into 4 sections.

Section 1 is verses 1 and 2, and it establishes the purpose of the Psalm. In this case, David is asking for forgiveness (for being a freaking asshole predator) and adding a bit of worship/flattery in the process.

Section 2 is verses 3-6 establishes that David understands that he did wrong and is a sinner, so the ultimate point of this section is to establish the need.

Section 3 is verses 7-12 and it describes what David wants God to do about the situation.

Section 4 is verses 13-19, and it describes what David will do and give in return. The last two verses in particular give a fairly clear "do this and you will be praised."

Looking at it this way, it reads very much like a petition to me. This blueprint can now be used to write a new prayer/spell. Since I don't really go for asking God for forgiveness (because the person you should be asking forgiveness from is the person you wronged), let's turn this into a Cleansing spell.

Spirits of this house and land, heed my call and lend a hand. Help cleanse this space from top to bottom, free it from all that is dank and rotten. [Establish the purpose]

The air is stale, the atmosphere grim. There's too much filth to be found within. [Explain the need]

So come fly through and cleanse the air. Refresh, renew, revive, repair. [What you want done about the need]

In return I will give you gifts, water, bread, and incense sticks. [What will be done/given in return]

With this given offering made, oh dear spirits, lend your aid. [Concluding remarks]

The rewritten spell/prayer can, of course, be longer or shorter depending on how verbose and/or specific you want to be. If the purpose is to bring abundance, you could lay out exactly what that abundance should look like. If the purpose is for protection, you can use a lot of imagery to describe just how protected you want that person or thing to be.

I find this method can be helpful if you know you want to ask for something, but don't quite know where to start. It's like those form letters that can help you write cover letters and such.

A Quick and Easy Modern Witch's Renunciation Ritual

You will need:

1 Bible - Old and New Testaments together preferred, but the one that best fits your religious upbringing/former faith will probably do best. If you have no particular upbringing in Christianity then any Bible will do, with the King James Version being the most commonly quoted and, for our money, the best version to use by default. If you're from a non-Christian faith background, you may want to try another religious text from that faith. However, this is NOT about renouncing your CURRENT FAITH in favor of witchcraft as a new religion, so read the whole ritual before choosing a book. Whatever book you choose, get a generic copy--do not use a sentimental one. (But now that I've listed that you need a Bible, I've probably got all y'all's attention, because you're like, oh no/OH YES, what is Felix gonna make us do with/to a Bible???)

Fire - Any means of lighting something on fire precisely, from candle to match to Zippo, that aids in protecting yourself and your possessions from lighting on fire by accident.

Lots of common sense - To be used with the above!!! Please pick an area that is suitable for fire usage! And check for smoke detectors beforehand lol.

Tongs - like barbecue tongs or tongs for holding incense charcoal while you light it. (Yes, yes, we're going to be burning some Bible here in this ritual tonight, just get over it.) If you think gloves and other protective equipment are necessary, don them.

Instructions:

Rip a page out of the Bible. This should be a page with real Bible text on it, not the Table of Contents. Which page is not going to influence the results, but if you find satisfaction in picking a specific page, or maybe two pages, go ahead. It should only be one or two pages for the purposes of this ritual. (If you want to light the rest of the Bible on fire later for your own catharsis, that's something you can schedule on your events calendar.)

Grip the page with tongs in a location that is fireproof or fire-safe.

Light that fucker on fire and watch it burn.

Start to notice how you feel and how the world looks around you.

How it works and what is happening:

Renunciation is an act where you declare that something is not part of you or your identity, and does not form the basis of your worldviews. Anyone can renounce, it's not a witch-only ritual or a way to become a witch. Rather, it is and has been a common and traditional way for people to enter the path of witchcraft and exit the path of societally-imposed dogmatic shame at the same time. We propose that the exit from said path is the real benefit here--the increase of awareness of our witchcraft comes as a nice side bonus. If you have another magic you perform, or a faith sorcery you practice, it will likely equally benefit.

Burning one page from a Bible accomplishes this quickly because the Bible is held up on this planet as the living word of God. Infallible, divine, precious, potent, sometimes wrathful. This view cannot exist in the same brain that rips a page out of the Bible, because that brain knows that it is only a book. This is why the ritual is the burning of one page--you must acknowledge that it is mere wood pulp, stitches and glue, ink instead of blood, nothing that's alive, just a manmade artifice, something that can be written down, like all books in every library everywhere. And one can know this, but until one tears the paper out--

--and admits that one will need to check the internet for what that verse says if they need to look it up later, or that they might have to buy another Bible copy later if they're doing studies of it, or that they will probably have to keep this copy out of view from those who don't understand why you'd rip a page out of THE BIBLE of all books--

--then one has not entered a world where they have ignored all those cautions and hesitancies and gone through with a simple act. As long as something is holding you back from a simple act, that thing is exerting power over you.

There are so many assumptions that come from the Bible, assumptions that are often hard to challenge. Assumptions about why we die, what our history is, how old our world is and how it was created. Assumptions about whether we even deserve forgiveness and redemption. A curtain of shame for questioning the assumptions. It is that curtain that we burn away when we burn the page. It is the declaration that the Word of God is not this book, because it is, and has never been anything more than, just a book.

After that declaration, you can speak your own godwords.
