Morning #BibleHaiku and #Biblejournaling Art The die is cast Bouncing across arid ground Weighted decisions [end] Joshua 15 - 17 this is the distribution of land to all the tribes of Israel. Notably they distributed the land by casting lots. Reading it I can hear an undertone that is something like: I want land and I want it now! And it has to be good land. And I have to be totally safe. And you should give me the best piece and the most pieces of land. *whining* Casting of lots was used to make impartial decisions. So perhaps there were accusations of favoritism. And then we have this… Achsah negotiates for better land for her new family. And it says that Joshua gave her the land. Not her husband or any of the other people. He gave the land to her. 15.17-19 Then we also have the four daughters that banded together because there were no sons in their family and asked for land. It says “the Lord commanded Moses to give us a legacy along with our male relatives.” 17.3-6 Then you can really hear the bickering over land in the 17.14-18. From a leadership perspective, this raises up the idea of “impartial decision making.” It is not possible to be fully impartial. And we can see here that going outside of the ordinary brought equity to these women. So my question would be, how many times do we go along with the system of decision making and inadvertently or purposely cut out marginalized people from wealth or power? Leaders must be willing to examine systems and to continue to strive towards #equity not #equality. Equality was casting lots … Everyone had an equal chance. Equity is making sure minoritized people are taken care of like the women in these verses. #bible #joshua #poetry #leadership #leaders #haiku #umc #christianity #poet #pnwumc #scripture #gonzaga #seattle #moral #ethics #biblejournaling #biblejournal #pastor https://www.instagram.com/p/BpE6tHshYrc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1cfyedlg85h60
