The Park Rapids Library is located 20 miles south of the Mississippi headwaters. It's a few short miles from the Heartland State Bike Trail. And blocks away from two of the best candy shops in all of Hubbard County. A great Library to map out some wild MN adventures.
Library bike programs are growing! Would love to see a Minnesota library out there on two wheels.
Walker Library (7 of 41)
There are so many things to love about the new library in Uptown. Three sides of the building are made up of floor to ceiling windows. The space is extremely inviting with brightly colored furniture, book displays on relevant themes to the community, and an overall awesome location. The library is located at the intersection of the Greenway bike path and one of the main Metro Transit Centers in Minneapolis. This library is just what the neighborhood needed. A free and energizing space to get work done and let the imagination run wild.
Washburn Library (6 of 41)
The Washburn Library is conveniently located near the Minnehaha Creek bike path. My favorite feature of this branch are the study nooks in non-fiction that overlook the creek. There also is a community puzzle table. I attempted to contribute a piece, but puzzles with giant trees are impossible. Fun Fact: They have a closet full of 60 puzzles in their workroom. I wonder if puzzles circulate in some libraries? Either way, great community activity for all ages.
Nokomis Community Library (3 of 41)
A bike ride down Minnehaha Creek, and around Lake Nokomis, just isn't complete without a pitt stop to cool down at the Nokomis Library. Reason #508 libraries rock, free AC.
Teen nook
Donald Celender's "Wind and Water Chime" (1968) The bronze and copper installation was inspired by the nearby Minnehaha Falls. It streams 16 feet from the library's ceiling - quite stunning!
East Lake Community Library (2 of 41)
The East Lake branch is my go-to library for picking up hold requests. It's located on the bustling corner of Minnehaha Avenue and East Lake Street, a few short blocks from where I work. I picked up some pretty fantastic holds today: J.K. Rowling's first stab at an adult novel, Khaled Hosseini's latest (author of The Kite Runner), and Heads in Beds, a memoir about working in the hospitality industry. I have been patiently waiting for all three of these hot reads for several months now, and of course, they are all ready for me on the same day. Speedy reading!
