L-I-B-R-A-R-Y Book
This book celebrating Walker Library alludes to one of the library's most recognizable features. The Walker Library building (the second building, built in 1981) was an innovative example of modern architecture located almost entirely underground. By the mid-1990s, the building needed structural and cosmetic renovations. When the library reopened in 1995, a large L-I-B-R-A-R-Y sculpture was added at street level to beautify the block. This booklet from the grand reopening was probably made to look like the new sculpture.
In 2013, the underground Walker Library was demolished to make way for a new library building. The sculpture, by artist Sara Rothholz Weiner, was preserved. It sits behind the current Walker Library.
Book from the Walker Library Records (HCL 063) archival collection.
