it kind of honestly bothered me even as a kid at how casual kitty threatened to reveal cerise's secret to everyone in eah. i understood it was for a haha funny joke in the webisode but in the books it was shown that the consequences for cerise (and her family) would've been severe if it happened. she would've been chased out of her house and home and get pursued by a mob and possibly killed for it. and then to see kitty try to reveal for everyone to see. there was also the scene from the books where briar stalked cerise after a school day to the edge of the woods where she could've accidentally learned about her secret but didn't manage to. anyways don't know where i'm going with this but something something great unintended allegory about being queer and closeted and coming out on your own terms and i'm glad that the books went with cerise revealing her secret being her own choice (albeit not under the best of circumstances)

Class-of-Classics Animal Companion HCs!

Cheshire Cat:

cheshire has a mushroom in a "tell me the name of god you fungal piece of shit" kind of way

she keeps it in a little pot and brings it with her everywhere, constantly threatening it for the answers to the universe

as far as anyone else can tell, it's just a regular ever after mushroom

whenever she is busy, she drops it off at the pet daycare with a bunch of pet supplies, including a brush, accessories, food ranging from raw fish to cupcakes, and a blanket, the staff never know how to handle this

it doesn't do anything?? it just mushrooms??

Pied Piper:

he has a cat

he has no idea how he acquired this cat

he refers to it as "cat"

it comes and goes as it pleases, often disappearing for days at a time before suddenly appearing again

when it is around, it often demands attention, and has broken many musical instruments to get it

melody tries to name it multiple times, but it only responds to "cat"

Goldilocks:

goldilocks gets a parrot

it's quite showy, it loves attention and doing tricks to entertain people

it can also be bribed with porridge to sneak around, which goldilocks uses to her advantage for getting leads for her newspaper (and the occasional gossip)

everyone was pretty surprised to see her with a parrot because birds hate her

Maid Marian:

maid marian inherits the wise old family tortoise, pasted down on the maternal side

her mother actually gives it to her earlier then normal as a way to say 'slow down, enjoy the scenery'

instead of getting the message, child maid marian put him in rollerskates strapped a rocket to his shell

he seems to be enjoying the wild adventures she takes him on

Red Riding Hood:

red has a flying squirrel

she makes a little red hood for her

she loves to cuddle while red is reading

they love going out on runs together

Big Badwolf:

he has a bunny

she is the cutest thing ever

she absolutely hates everything

everything except red riding hood, that is

this irks both big and red's flying squirrel to no end

Snow White:

snow gets a platypus

it doesn't bond with her like most animal companions do

it's literally just a wild platypus

eventually, she lets it go back into the wild

she sees this as a rare snow L

she definitely adopts some random animal and pretends it's her destined animal companion

Evil Queen:

she has a worm

Pinocchio:

gepetto carved him a wooden starfish

he made it to remind pinocchio of his home while he was at eah

despite being made of wood, it is, in fact, very sticky and it loves sticking itself to pinocchio's face

Queen Charming:

she has a dire wolf

her family is very concerned when their perfect little princess comes into the castle holding a wolf pup almost as big as she is

they try many times to get rid of it

actually the sweetest animal on the planet

while queen charming and maid marian are roommates at eah, their pets love curling up together and sleeping

and then suddenly, they never see each other again

when she got married to king charming, no one saw her wolf again

Candy Witch:

her pet is a brownie bat

it's one of the first things she ever baked and it's a little lopsided and a little too dry, but it's been with her through thick and thin

she likes using icing and sprinkles to give it a new look every now and then, and it loves playing dress-up

King Charming:

the charming family has a long history of getting mythical creatures as companions

king charming gets a griffin cub and he loves it

they play-wrestle all of the time

the other charmings disapprove of his companion

King Charming:

when it grows up, the charmings deem it a "vile beast" and king charming slays it

Candy Witch:

her hansel and gretel's voraciousness knew no bounds during their story and they ate one of her brownie bat's wings and stole an m&m eye

What if the Badwolf-Hood secret is not such a secret? What if pretty much all the students know?

Canonically, Raven, Maddie, and Kitty all know the truth. And I’m pretty sure some others have figured it out by now.

It’s one thing for a quiet student to always, always wear her cloak and hood (”I get cold easily! And I’m....practicing for my destiny. Yes. That’s it.” “You’re a Rebel.” “Still.”) and run suspiciously fast and wolf down meat (pun intended). It’s another for a Wolf student to spend all her time in human form, unlike her father, and show less Wolf attributes than he does. For both of them together...

And the two of them look alike, too.

So alike that you’d think someone would have figured this out before now.

What if they have?

In Justine Dancer’s diary, Cerise outright called Ramona her sister in front of Justine.

Cerise sleeps in the same room as Cedar, who literally cannot tell a lie. (That must be so much stress for poor Cerise.) She sleeps with her hood on, but over the course of the entire year, the hood never slipped off in the middle of the night? Cerise never accidentally mentioned something suspicious? Cedar never overheard a phone conversation or found a note addressed to Cerise?

Maybe the reason Cedar didn’t tell everyone is simply because no one asked her. She’s under no compulsion to blurt out the truth if she’s not asked for it.

Or maybe someone did mention something and Cedar had no choice but to say the truth....but nobody said anything further because they know what this could do to Cerise and Ramona and their parents.

The entire school saw Cerise run faster than any human should. Raven explained this away as a speed spell, but did everyone buy her explanation?

Maybe Maddie and Kitty told Lizzie, and later Alistair and Bunny. The Wonderlandians are very close-knit.

Maybe Raven told Dexter. Speaking of Dexter...

In Cerise and the Beast, he found out the truth, but on the way back to Ever After High he bumped his head and forgot the events of the entire book. But memory loss caused by head injury doesn’t always last forever....

Class of Classics Brainstorm Sesh - The Hoods and the Badwolfs

my cc pinterest board post got attention again so here we are. if i'm completely honest the single character headcanon posts that i was making are not really my favorite so we're trying something new. instead of yapping about one charater, i'll yap about a whole bunch of them. this also gives me the chance to flesh out the world. because fuck i think i might be planning a rewrite

okay i guess i'll start by talking about the destinies

Destinies

first, i am not the most well-versed in rh, so i've been doing a bit of reading (i picked up robin hood and the merry adventures of robin hood from my library) but i definitely want to read more before i start ironing out all of the details of the rh destiny (esp because all eah gives us is "steal from the rich and give to the poor" + rh is seen as a villainous role)

what i want to do is instead of trying to condense every piece of rh lore into a singular destiny, i'll take a few key parts of rh tales and say that's the destiny, that's what every rh must do the rest varies. ik the point of destiny is that it's set in stone, it doesn't change but i already have a few ideas to "seamlessly" incoporate this into canon

for sure i think the destiny will include:

little john joining the merry men

however maid marian happens

probably should destinize the main points of rh and the sheriff

i also want rh's death to be part of the destiny mainly because being betrayed by a loved one? is going to add so much to sparrow and duchess's dynamic?? why do we as a fandom not talk about this??? (like seriously was anyone going to tell me about rh's death or was i just supposed to read that for myself)

if anyone else has any opinion on this feel free to lmk

on the other hand, i think eah's rrh is pretty established

wolf leads rrh astray to get to granny's house first → wolf eats granny (except maybe not) → wolf eats rrh → huntsman kills wolf and saves rrh + granny

i don't really plan to change this, but cc badwolf surviving is going to be an exception and not the norm

some more thoughts:

hood hollow has three main destinies, rh, rrh, and rrh's huntsman

wolf woods has rrh's wolf, three little pigs' wolf, and boy who cried wolf's wolf

none of them are bloodline destinies, but they do tend to be filled by a hood/wolf respectively

for the hoods, rrh is the role most likely to be passed from parent to child, rh has never been passed directly

rrh's wolf has never been passed directly as they usually don't have children before they die

the rest of the hoods/badwolfs are typically backgrounders (destiny-less) but occasionally one will get another destiny

it is rare for hoods to become merry men

rh → villain, rrh → damsel, huntsman → hero

in tlp, the wolf is also fated to die, bwcw the wolf doesn't die so probably going to wind up in jail for crimes committed living out destiny

okay now i want to get more into the hoods and badwolfs, talk about their lives, their conflict, etc.

Hood Hollow

located in charming kingdom

rhs are not allowed to stay in hood hollow, they get officially kicked out when their destiny begins but most stop returning when they start attending eah

all hoods want their children to be male, because they want their children to be the future huntsman, the best a female child can be is rrh, no one wants their child to be rh

they are secluded and they do not like outsiders, but that does not stop the influence of the charming kingdom from finding its way in

the worst in-laws in all of ever after

there are two categories of hoods: those that hate the badwolfs and those that tolerate them

technically it's illegal to kill badwolfs since they're, y'know, people, but hoods have created a loophole where they kill them in wolf form, claim they were killing a "vicious wolf" in "self defense" how were they supposed to know that was a person?

Wolf Woods

borders hood hollow

that "bad" neighborhood that when you have to drive through it, you don't stop vibes

there's a lack of hope bc goddamn, they're raising their kids for slaughter

most of their children don't make it to adulthood

obviously, they're producing villains, villains, and more villains

i want to use ww to really look at how the destiny system treats those lowest on the totem poll, to show how its all about control

there's also two main wolf family categories, the ones that fully embrace being a villain and the ones that do their best to change that image because their children deserve better, they deserve better

a badwolf from one of the villainous-embracing families (future tlp wolf)

an "oracle" who can see people's destinies (destiny-less)

yes i'm making plenty of hoods so that i have a reason to deep dive into hood hollow because what is all of that happening there. and yes that fourth minor hood is just because it seriously bothers me that they just assign people destinies without really giving us a reason why/how they know this destiny and not that destiny (aka why do they know daring will be the future snow white prince and they have no idea what destiny dexter or darling will have?)

Scarlett and Pounce met each other when they were kids

lark and ruby are siblings, scarlett is their cousin

lark → scarlett → ruby age-wise

scarelett was born and the oracle said she was the next rrh, so she was named aptly as such, however when ruby was born, the oracle also said she had a destiny so her parents named her another shade of red, hoping she would be the rrh instead

scarlett and pounce are part of more progressive families

lark and ruby are part of a badwolf-hunting family, lark doesn't support it, ruby does

scarlett and lark end up growing really close and lark tries to be a good big brother to ruby but theres a disconnect

the hoods are all friendly when they start eah, when they graduate it goes downhill fast

scarlett and pounce plan to run away to wonderland and get married and be happy away from hh/ww but wonderland gets poisoned and that doesn't happen

they have a growing resentment towards their homes, they tried to fit into them for as long as they could, surviving until they could make their escape, then they couldn't and they're trapped in lives they don't want

lark is really interested in the sea, he and pinoak bond over this shared affinity

after he gets kicked out of hh, lark sends letters to ruby and scarlett as a means to keep in touch, ruby never replies

ruby was supposed to get the glory of being the rrh huntsman, and she didn't get that, she hates it and it tears her up inside, especially because her husband failed to kill the badwolf

she makes it her mission to hunt pounce down and kill him

ruby ends up leaving hh after her story ends when she decides to marry the rrh huntsman

If Raven hadn’t refused to sign the Storybook of Legends, Ramona would have.

Ramona wasn’t there, though. Ramona was at the Dark Forest Reform School. The plan was for her to sign when she transferred to Ever After High. Except then Legacy Day happened.

Ramona still refused to sign, but Headmaster Grimm thought she’d just been affected by the “Rebel mania” pervading the school. He said “I’m sure you’ll come around soon, Miss Badwolf” and sent her back to class, planning to call in Raven for another meeting.

This does not mean that Ramona befriended Raven. Ramona does not like Raven.

This is because Raven was the cause of Cerise revealing herself to Hood Hollow.

The consequences were immediate and long-lasting. Cerise was nearly banished from Hood Hollow. She saved herself from that by the skin of her teeth, but public sentiment is still running high against her; she can no longer go into the town, and Red only dares to on rare occasions, like to buy groceries. Sales from her bakery dropped immediately, as naturally the people of her hometown were her most frequent customers (although they’ve picked back up since Cerise and Raven [and, discreetly, Ramona and Mr. Badwolf] did some advertising, and the Mad Hatter arranged a business deal with Red in which he would sell some of her pastries in the Tea Shoppe).

Ramona is nervous (not scared, she doesn’t get scared) that her family’s secret (the family is the secret, the play on words she’s never been able to tell anyone) will spread beyond Hood Hollow.

And even in Hood Hollow alone....

Whenever the villagers have the slightest grievance, they go straight for the pitchforks and torches. They despise and fear the Wolves.

 And in the Dark Forest, the Wolf pack awaits, waiting to prey on whatever they consider weak blood, shameful, a disgrace.

Or rather, whoever.

Ramona blames Raven for all this, because if not for Raven, the secret would not have been revealed, and the family would have been safe - for the time being, at least.

But Ramona never does anything. Why?

Because Raven is one of Cerise’s very few friends. Raven was the first friend Cerise ever had besides Ramona. The nature of their family secret led both girls to be social outcasts, but Cerise more than Ramona, for Ramona never had to fear a hood falling off, and she never had to hide her Wolf instincts.

So Ramona isn’t going to do anything in revenge for the secret being revealed. She’s not going to jeopardize one of her sister’s rare friendships. Ramona will watch from the shadows, and she’ll keep a protective eye on her sister and a distrustful eye on the villagers of Hood Hollow, on the Wolves who are her kin, on all of Ever After.....and she will sleep with one eye open, her sleep disturbed by visions of raised voices and snapping teeth and flickering flames, and wait for the storm to break.

One day, Cerise and Ramona both get detention. And the supervising teacher in detention is Mr. Badwolf. So everyone's feeling bad for poor Cerise, stuck in there with her mother's enemy and her future enemy, and meanwhile the three of them are just chatting about their day or playing a board game or something.
