Dad's friend asked if "mind"... Sorry, what was the question?
has anyone here played bioshock? s/o and I are currently obsessed with it (probably halfway though the game now, just finished fort frolic) and would love to gush about it with someone (no spoilers please) 😬
I need like a new game of Bioshock like right now.
Even if some characters were irritating as hell, I wouldn't mind to play a new one.
Daddies.
🌼 Yandere Big Daddy headcanons from game BioShock, pleaseeee
I did see this exact ask on another blog in my travels, but since they said they don’t write for Bioshock my heart attack ceased and I’m happy to answer! Just know I’ve never played the games before so any lore inconsistencies are down to me being an idiot!
Big Daddies are literally the perfect template for being protective yanderes, because that’s literally what they’re programmed to do. They’re warped knights, defenders, and that trait gets imprinted on anything that is able to break through their conditioning in some way, shape, or form.
With the original ones/later models, they’re able to discern more between threats and non-threats, so there’s more chance of being registered to them as a non-threatening entity that they don’t need to care or worry about.
Most of what they do is through conditioning and for the sake of the little sisters, so winning over the Little Sisters would be necessary. How were you supposed to know that protecting a weird little girl from a Splicer would end up with you being in this situation?!
Protecting her had been a natural instinct, even if she was a Little Sister, she was still a normal girl once, and seeing such an idealised world, she saw you as another knight to keep them safe, you don’t look like Mr. Bubbles! You don’t look exactly like a party guest either, you’re pretty and shiny!
When she grabs yours hand you’re surprised, she isn’t running away from you or scared. Instead, she drags you along with her while she harvests ADAM. She hasn’t had a new friend in ages, the angels are too busy to play with her, but you’re different!
And you just can’t say no, even with how weird she is. She isn’t normal, she harvests ADAM from corpses and laughs while she does it, but a part of you can’t help but feel sorry for her as she skips around the broken world of Rapture. So, you follow her as she wants, keeping the Splicers away from her as she...plays.
Coming across the Big Daddy is terrifying, he’s a hulking great machine/human hybrid after all. But he doesn’t attack you, simply lifts the Little Sister onto his shoulder and turns to leave. But he stops when the Little Sister starts crying.
“No, Mr. B! Don’t leave Shiny behind!”
Perhaps it’s similar to the way they can break out of their conditioning with the world in times of stress, but there’s something in her mind that doesn’t want to let you go, be it the more buried child who’s lonely, or the Little Sister liking her new friend, but her distress triggers the Big Daddy.
They’re built to protect the Sisters, and he can tell you leaving is what’s causing her some form of pain. He can’t let her be sad, so as you’re preparing to walk away you find a hand wrapping around your torso, hiking you onto his other shoulder. You’re not a Little Sister, he can tell that, but they all work as a hivemind. The other Little Sisters come to like you too, meaning that every Big Daddy will work together to make sure you’re protected from any and all things that could cause you to be hurt.
The programming soon twists slightly because of the situation, reasoning soon doesn’t matter because only their purpose does, it fades away because like most things they don’t need to remember the reasoning behind what they’re doing. They don’t just protect the Little Sisters now, they protect you.
With the Alpha series things are a little different, there’s no chance of getting close to them later due to the loss of their specific Little Sister making them shut down or go mad. But that in itself is an opportunity.
Of course, when this was discovered by the scientists, it caused issues with the Big Daddies who’d lost their Little Sisters being overly aggressive, making them difficult to contain, and to continue their research and to stop these rouge Big Daddies drawing too much attention they need to be dealt with.
So they branch off into other experiments to help with containment, of course people die and get ripped to shreds by the Big Daddies, but you, sold off to Fontaine Futuristics by your asshole landlord when you couldn’t afford your rent to ‘pay off your debt’, are the first to actually work.
It took a lot of trial and error, but for you they’re able to create a pheromone mimic, it doesn’t work on Little Sisters, it blocks their ability to create ADAM, but for you it makes it so that for a Big Daddy without their Little Sister, you smell like the Sister they lost. Of course, this makes them extremely protective over you because of their slip into madness, they can’t risk losing the scent of their Sister again. Anything that breathes in a 10 mile radius of you is dead.

Playing Bioshock again has made me realize when given the opportunity I almost always gravitate towards maximum Unga in shooters. By equipping the right gene tonics I made my wrench a force to be reckoned with that also heals me on hit and the only enemies I didn't regularly bludgeon to death were turrets, security drones, and the splicers that teleport. And Big Daddies, obviously, because no matter how Unga I become they will always be more Unga.
