Other Seattle locals tell me these gorgeous trees starting to bloom near my mom and dad’s house are big leaf maples, aka Acer macrophyllum, aka Oregon maples. And the flower clusters can be eaten raw when full of nectar.
This tree probably has a couple of stories to tell..

Last year I learned that these Big Leaf Maple blossoms are edible and sometimes get fried up like fritters in a batter. Still not sure if I'm going to try it but I have a little time as this tree species is just starting to flower.
