"agree to disagree" is a shit phrase unless it's something like pineapple on pizza or at most, a religious thing like about doing certain things (ie. abstaining from something)
latest doctor visit RANT
so i went to a new doctor yesterday to check out a big mass on my neck (for which i need a biopsy and ultrasound and copious bloodtests uGH) and so i waited for him in his office, and noticed he had a ton of nutrition books stacked on his desk and a lot of tour de france magazine clippings and stuff all over his walls - a health nut! i was kind of excited to ask him lots of nutrition questions. so he walks in, very thin and sinewy, and takes a glance at chubby lil me sitting on the chair and greets me and such. he asked me regular health questions and about my life and school and i told him i go to le cordon bleu for baking and pastry and this guy literally laughs at the thought. "Refined and added sugars are SO terrible for you." that was his response. i just sat there with my mouth kind of open, not wanting to be combative with a doctor i just met, and smiled and said it's a creative outlet for me.
he then went on to rant and rant about how terrible sugar is for you and blah blah blah and carbs are just terrible in excess and blah and literally lectured for like 30 minutes before i got annoyed at the belittlement and asked if he could examine me because my mom was in in the waiting room. he did, and checked my blood pressure first. he honestly looked a little shocked when he said "you have an extremely happy heart. your heart rate is very low and steady... that's a really difficult feat." and looked at me in a way that screamed "HOW DOES THIS FAT GIRL WHO EATS CAKE HAVE SUCH A HEALTHY HEART?" and i calmly responded to his expression with utmost satisfaction: "yes, well, i know i have weight to lose, but i actually work out a lot and eat a generally healthy and clean diet - it's just hard for me to lose weight." and he looked so perplexed and i couldn't help but add "i do eat a lot of dessert on top of the healthy eating, though - so if sugar is so bad for me, why is my heart so healthy?" and this vegan plant based paleo-eating doctor literally looked so baffled for a good few silent moments and continued to go on another rant about it that did not directly answer my question.
let me answer it for you, doc - it's because it's perfectly acceptable to eat those delicious indulgence foods in MODERATION. and it's because you can still be a perfectly healthy and functioning human being even if you're not at you're ideal fighting weight.
i really fucking hate that this doctor immediately assumed i'm a deeply unhealthy and nutritionally ignorant person because i have weight to lose and because i bake for a living. thank you for proving him wrong, my healthy happy heart.
