Norman Foster 2 WTC fans rejoice! According to the NY Post, WTC developer Larry Silverstein has brought Foster back to upgrade the original design for the 2020s! "But now that BIG’s quirky tower of stacked boxes has no takers, the old Foster design is being “significantly modified to be more reflective of contemporary needs and taste.” Stuck in limbo since 2012, 2 World Trade Center is one of the last two remaining unbuilt towers in the WTC complex, following the completion of 3 World Trade this spring, seventeen years after 9/11. With over 2.5 million square feet of Class A office space, the skyscraper has been a tug of war between British architect Norman Foster, and Danish contemporary architect Bjarke Ingels. Foster was the original architect chosen for the site and worked closely with the design team to propose a tower that fits with the overall context of the site. First proposed in 2006, the design called for a 1,340-foot skyscraper with four “diamonds” at the top, angled directly down onto the 9/11 memorial pools. The Post also mentions 5 WTC – the other unbuilt WTC site – writing Silverstein is "vying to build a rental apartment tower at the World Trade Center’s Site 5, in partnership with Brookfield. Designed by BIG and FREAKS, MÉCA cultural centre in #Bordeaux #France has opened to public in June 2019. The building is conceived as a single loop of public space and cultural institutions. The pavement of the promenade rises to form the roof of the main lobbies, ascends vertically along the stage tower of OARA, bridges across the promenade with the sky lit galleries of the FRAC, and returns vertically to the ground at the archives of the ECLA in order to reunite with the waterfront promenade. #repost • @skyscraperengineering @big_builds, @hijjas_architects_and_planners and @rambollgroup won an international competition set out by the Penang State Government to transform Penang South Islands into a sustainable, global destination. The plan will provide Malaysians with 4.6km of public beaches, 600 acres of parks and a 25km waterfront. The designers aim to create a place where people and nature coexist in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. The plan is divided into three archipelago shaped themed islands. The Channels, the Mangroves and the Laguna.
