Leo (m) x Virgo (f) Moodboard for anon
is it bad that I like more rounded guys? there just so huggable that way. Like a teddy bear. and I feel like I give more warmth in a good way. dunno. same thing with girls. whenever I hug them they give off the same vibe. I great to know that you you literally feel something thats just there to hug and hold. Thats just me.
Slight Rant
K so something that really makes me mad and I know it probably shouldn't but oh well, fuck it. I just wanna be able to buy some new fucking clothes that I ACTUALLY WANT and not grab whatever the fuck will fit me. Yeah I might be a little on the bigger side, but I'm also fuck SIX FOOT TWO! Oh I'm sorry I happened to be SO FUCKING TALL AND NATURALLY BROAD, SORRY FOR HAVING THE NATURAL BUILD OF A FUCKING LINEBACKER!!
That's not even the worst part honestly, since up here in Canada the largest most places carry is a XL so I'm forced to shop at very limited places, but when I go to said places and even THEY barely carry shit that I like in my size just pisses me off even more. Like for fucks sake people are getting bigger everywhere so why the fuck won't companies start making BIGGER FUCKING CLOTHES FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME!? Like holy shit, I go through 3 damn pages of fucking shirts and out of the handful I find that I think look nice, guess how many of them fit me THREE! LIKE WHAT THE FUCK?!
Theres no way that I'm the only one out there that thinks this because I know for a damn sure that theres a couple guys just around where I live that are big like me and they have to order every god damn thing online. It's just so FUCKING ANNOYING trying to find clothes that I like and actually fit me. But nope, I guess since bigger people are still seen as completely ugly we don't get any say.
FUCK.
Rant done.
Cosplay ideas?
Hey people,
So those of you that know me know that I'm a bigger guy, and there is a Canadian Comic Con in a neighbouring city where I live. But I'm torn over what to cosplay as. Does anyone want to reblog and suggest what I could go as? There will probably be dozens of suggestions that I won't know about or know where they are from, but still, I'm interested.
Also, please don't suggest Mikey from the cartoon Recess. It has already been suggested :P
How to Beat a Bigger, Stronger Guy in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Alternate Title: How to beat Chad on the mat
I often feel that my size and strength are too much of an inherent advantage in BJJ. Even in my weight division of super-heavy, I often outweigh my opponents by 100+ pounds. Believe me when I say I would not want someone my size on top of me either. But then I am reminded by guys that are blindingly fast and/or super flexible, that we all roll in our own way using what physical traits we have.
That said, I am regularly beaten by guys and gals much smaller than me. Hell, I have been tapped by a 100 pound woman... no lie. The trick, as you might have guessed, is relying more technique, and the right techniques.
When I take BJJ classes, I'm often the "last kid picked for kickball" due to my size and strength. It wasn't always this way. When I was white belt, everyone took their turn kicking my ass. I did my time. But once I learned how to achieve a dominant position and use my weight, there was no looking back. Now, when I ask a lot of people to roll, they either sit out saying "they better not due injury x" after they just rolled full speed with another guy in class, or, they make a face (usually involving a rolling of the eyes) that says "I really don't want to roll with you, but I will because I don't: a) want to look like a wussy, b) get my ass beat, c) <some other stupid motivation>. Bare in mind that I generally start on the bottom, often giving my rolling partners side control to start, and force myself to work my way to a dominant position.
To be fair, there are also a group of fellow classmates that love rolling with me. From their perspective, if they can survive a round with me, they feel they can survive a round with anyone. I don't know if that's true, but I could see why they feel that way.
Anyways, I wrote this blog to help smaller guys understand what needs to be done to beat a bigger guy like me. It can be done and is done on a regular basis. You just can't always use the same strategy that you use with guys in your same weight class. Physics matters a little more here. :)
Disclaimer: I've only been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about a year now. I got my Blue Belt in September 2011. I am anything but a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert. That said, what follows are my observations of how smaller guys that do manage to beat me do it. (I'm the "bigger, stronger guy" in case you have not figured it out yet).
Never Let Me On Top... EVER
No seriously, don't do it. I'm about 420 as of this blog and strong as an ox (slow as one too). I can't bench press 420 pounds, and, I know you damn sure can't, so stay off the bottom. Even if I don't submit you, I will exhaust you just from smothering you in my weight. I have "tapped" several people this way - people who simply could not breath or handle the pressure.
This means that you also need to win the takedown in the tournament. Please don't pull guard. You're making your life very hard by doing so.
Best Dominant Positions in Order of Preference
Knee on Belly is probably your best bet. Have good arm and/or lapel control and keep your lapels out of my arms reach. Make sure that you knee is as far down on my abdomen, and that you knee is all the way across so that the top of your ankle is against my side (I often reverse knee on belly by under-hooking that ankle and pulling inward which sets up a sweep or kind-of-single leg attack).
Side Control is ok as long as you are fast. Standard Americanas or Alma Platas probably won't work because of a strength mismatch and because you have to reach way over my body to get it which makes you vulnerable to sweeps. Work the near arm and chokes primarily. Attempt submissions fast and often. The second you feel that you don't have it, reset your base and maintain side control.
Mount: Forget it. My gut means that your center of gravity is higher than it would be on a normal person, which means every time you lean forward you are way off balance. I have bucked smaller guys completely off me before (as in about 2 feet past me). I'm also known for giving guys a cross collar choke and then rolling them over and simply posturing out of it. If you're going to try this one, make sure that you mounted on my chest with your knees in my armpits, which will help immobilize my arms. Once you get the first arm in, do the other one fast and then strap in with your legsm because I will probably still roll you. However, this time, I won't be able to posture out because your weight is much higher up on my body if that makes sense (you legs are wrapped around my shoulders versus the small of my back).
Back Mount: If you have long enough legs to wrap around me, go for it. If you have short, stubby legs, I don't recommend it. When I am caught in back control, I love to get the bottom guy flat on his back and make him carry my weight as I bridge backward. It's quit unpleasant. That said, make sure to stay on one side or the other and switch sides when you feel that you are losing it.
Best Submissions
Arm bars are probably one of the safest. I have gotten better and better at defending them, but I definitely still get caught in them more than I should.
Otherwise, unorthodox chokes. As a general rule, cross-collar (large, strong neck) and triangle chokes (very wide back) don't work on me (when people put me in a triangle choke, I use that to pass guard by grabbing the opposite lapel). The highly technical guys that usually beat me do it from knee on belly with a baseball choke or a clock choke with me in turtle.
I guess because of my lower rank, no one has ever tried any leg or foot submissions on me.
Wrist Locks are good too, if you can catch me off guard. Though I suspect that this is true of anyone.
Final Thoughts:
Speed Kills. Complete your submissions fast. I catch way too many guys setting up collar chokes, and then taking forever to finish it. Often, when you're setting up that choke, you have given up a post arm, so I'm just going to sweep you that direction - unless you submit me first.
Stay out of my arms reach. If I am in a comfortable position and make a grip of any kind, assume that you are in trouble. That may not always be so, but you can risk giving me a dominant position. Play your game, not mine. Break the grip and reset.
If you are on bottom shrimp super hard and create extreme angles that take me longer to recover from. Don't focus on recomposing your guard or trying to submit me from guard (I couldn't tell you the last time someone submitted me from guard - it just doesn't happen). Shrimp away with the intent of standing up and taking my back or some other dominant position (you can stand up far faster than me).
Hope this helps.
