Erin Reed at Erin In The Morning:
Fireworks erupted during a House Foreign Relations Subcommittee meeting when Chairman Keith Self (R-TX) deliberately misgendered Representative Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first transgender congresswoman, referring to her as the "Gentleman from Delaware." In response, McBride shot back, addressing Self as "Madam Chair." The exchange sparked immediate protests from Democrats, with ranking minority member Bill Keating (D-MA) demanding, "Have you no decency?" Tensions escalated, and after continued objections, Self abruptly adjourned the hearing. “I recognize the representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride,” said Representative Self. “Thank you, Madame Chair,” McBride responded before beginning to speak—only to be quickly interrupted by ranking Democrat Bill Keating, who turned to Self in disbelief. “Mr. Chairman… could you repeat your instruction again, please?” Keating asked. Self attempted to justify himself. “Yes, we have set the standard on the floor of the House, and I’m simply—” Keating cut him off. “What is that standard, Mr. Chairman? Could you repeat what you just said? When you introduced a duly elected representative from the United States of America. Please.” Self doubled down. “I will. The representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride.” Keating, his voice rising, fired back. “Mr. Chairman, you are out of order. Have you no decency? I’ve come to know you a little bit, but this is not decent.” “We will continue this hearing,” Self insisted. Keating stood his ground. “You will not continue it with me unless you introduce a duly elected representative the right way!” [...] Immediately after the hearing, Keith Self took to Twitter to justify his actions, writing, "It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female." His statement echoes language from a Trump executive order—one with no binding authority over the House and no legal standing of its own. Nothing in the order compels Self to misgender his colleague, nor does it excuse his refusal to extend her even the most basic courtesy or respect.
Glad to see Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) basically tell Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) off by saying “Have you no decency?” for misgendering trans Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) by calling her “Mister”, in which McBride flung back with “Madam Chair.” This isn’t the first time that McBride has been misgendered and/or deadnamed by a Republican Congress member, and it certainly won’t be the last.
Do you keep up with the news? Unsurprisingly, republicans (Keith Self this time) are being bigoted transphobes again, only this time it's a really low blow. It's just being an ass.
Where I'm from, Keith Self would have been kicked out of whatever party he would be in (yes, even the conservative ones) and possibly charged with commiting a hate crime, which is punishable with up to two years of prison. Needless to say, whether he would be leaving the building in handcuffs or not, pulling this stunt here would literally end his career. I have a difficult time trying to understand why the same isn't true in a "modern country" like the US.
He's probably not going to see it, but I want to give a shoutout to William Keating. You were awesome.
You mean the pathetic coward Keith Self who was immediately sent running with his tail between his legs to cry on Twitter because he got the slightest bit of pushback for mistreating a congresswoman?
I genuinely don't understand how MAGAts will brag about so-called alpha males when their representatives are all such babies.
Bill Keating acted incredibly courageously in standing up for a colleague. A true hero! Keith Self adjourned the meeting early and then whined online that he was being so mistreated. 🙄
I have no idea what happened to the MAGA population that they somehow look at weak cowards like Keith and have convinced themselves that's strength.
So yeah, doubling what you said! Huge shoutout to Bill Keating for standing up for what was right.
And also, my deepest sympathies for the nanny responsible for changing Keith Self's diapers after the incident.

(Once Upon a Time, back in 2011)…. I’ve never considered myself as being much interested in politics, let alone being anything of a politician. But, I recently had the opportunity to represent our Clubhouse (and in fact, Clubhouses everywhere in the US) in attending the U.S. Clubhouse Coalition convention in Washington, D.C. (specifically, Arlington, VA ,which is a part of the District of Columbia), held in the Rosslyn Ballroom at the Arlington Holiday Inn. The first official meeting was held on Sunday evening, with meetings and workshops being held from 8:30am to 6:00pm for the next three days. Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t talk a whole heck of a lot—unless I really feel a point needs to be made—and only very rarely at meetings. Well, it seems I discovered a situation in Washington, in which anyone would have been hard-pressed to shut me up!… Words come pretty easy when one is defending their Clubhouse! Well, most of us are aware that there are two Clubhouse organizations that directly affect Baybridge Clubhouse; the MCC, or Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition and the ICCD, the International Center for Clubhouse Development. It is the intention of the Clubhouses of several states in the US to fill a current gap in the system by spearheading a coalition of Clubhouses on a national level; one that focuses on a standards-based policy and ICCD accreditation—the previously mentioned United States Clubhouse Coalition. A formal mission statement has yet to be agreed upon for now, but the emphasis is on the cohesiveness of Clubhouse philosophy as seen in the eyes of the ICCD, and the importance of ICCD accreditation. I spoke at length with Congressman Bill Keating in his office at the House of Representatives, Canon House about the situation. Jen and I will be filling you in, in deeper detail at an upcoming Club Training.
