bill robles
The Space Shuttle Columbia comes home on July 4, 1982. Commemorated in NASA art by Bill Robles.
About a week ago I did a "left handed" portrait of my friend Bill Robles, who had his 92nd birthday last Friday. I packed it up and sent it to him and I was surprised that it arrived at this door last Friday, on his birthday.
Great timing with the post office.
Cheers Bill. Hope you are still celebrating.
Some context:
The reference I had for this was a photo in my camera from back in the day. Bill had invited me and my then girlfriend Valerie to a Press Club event in Beverly Hills. All three of us posed for the photo. At the time Bill was going through a divorce and we would hang out with him so that he didn't feel alone. Then he found his late partner Sandy.
Manson courtroom illustrations by Bill Robles
No photography was allowed in the Knoedler Gallery art forgery trial that ended earlier this month, so the pivotal scenes, fake Rothko and all, were illustrated by courtroom artists Elizabeth Williams and Victor Juhasz. With some exceptions, courtrooms remain one of the few places where photography is forbidden, so sketching is a vital way of capturing the moods, emotions, and actions of what’s going on.
Library of Congress Acquires Four Decades of Courtroom Art, Spanning Manson to Madoff
The courtroom artist behind the big cases. With a major murder case taking place this week, Bill Robles, who has spent five decades capturing moments big and small in courtroom cases you might have heard about, is back on the beat. His career is more interesting than about 98 percent of people's. Anyway, we didn't want this post to get reblogged by one of those creepy James Holmes fandom Tumblrs, so we used a picture of Kevin Federline instead.
