Castle - Countdown by Bill Roe , Andrew W. Marlowe.
8/5/21.
In "Twist Top", of my favorite songs from The Clean, David Kilgour shouts, "three million people can't be wrong". I've used that phrase over the years to point out to friends that one can't ignore the prevailing evidence.
Bill and Lisa Roe's Trouble in Mind label is releasing "Mandatory Enjoyment" from Los Angeles based band Dummy. Many people I follow on Bandcamp immediately bought this within the day. I'm taking that as the metaphorical "three million people can't be wrong" statement.
The RIYL list on Trouble in Mind mentions: Yo La Tengo, Stereolab and My Bloody Valentine.
mollycaitlynquinn #flashbackfriday on the set of #Castle with Bill Roe one of our DPs and directors. (He was definitely a favorite of mine) Alexis was learning about splatter patterns by smashing tomatoes! Rob Bowman, also a director and executive producer of Castle, emailed me this photo this week. It makes me so happy! Great memories
The X Files: I Want to Believe (Chris Carter, 2008).

I saw that Bill Roe ("Trouble in Mind") had bought this so investigated.
Moonlove were a fairly unknown band out of Kent, Ohio in the mid-80s. They had a knack for melodies and sound, but not necessarily musicianship. I can relate...and frankly I have more than just a soft spot in my heart for bands like this. This sounds like a product of its times - combining Barbara Manning with The Feelies (and side projects like The Trypes) with Look Blue Go Purple (New Zealand).
That any fan of the new and burgeoning San Francisco Sound (Tony Jay, Cindy, Flowertown, or The Reds, Pinks and Purples) please take note. You'll probably find a lot to like in this reissued gem.

The Tubs (UK) are part of series of bands that released music on Prefect Records. I bought them all and have loved them since.
Bill Roe (Trouble In Mind Records) found the band and has now released an EP on his label. I will only mention the other Prefect bands I acquired with my The Tubs 7″: Ex-Vöid, Mt. Misery and GN.

Happy New Year! To celebrate, let’s dig into a label that’s “new-to-me” - Notown Records. I learned about this label because Bill Roe (Trouble in Mind Records) had bought Silver Palm (Portland, OR). Apparently, this was originally recorded and released
This album definitely has the groove and feel of a snottier version of Pylon and The B-52s. Imagine if Patricia Rowland (Vomit Launch) was the singer of the previously mentioned bands and you’ll have an approximation of Silver Palm.
Some snooping of the blog also brought me back to bands like Bodega, Noseholes and WALL.
As for the label...it’s hard to tell who is behind this. They have several releases on Discogs.

Sometime crazy things happen. Lester Maddox was elected governor of Georgia in 1966. The Mets won the World Series in 1969. And both Bill Roe and Doug Mosurock bought this new 7″ from Tyvek.
Tyvek are a Detroit, Michigan based band. Protomartyr is from the same town and while the bands don’t really sound alike, the urgency is there in both. Tyvek tends more to the punk/garage/pop sound.
I can see comparisons to The Fall, Parquet Courts, or Bodega. This, however is shorter bursts of music more reminscent in length (if not musically) to Tony Molina.
