Album Number Three Hundred. “The Best of Crosby & Nash” is an out of print #crosbyandnash greatest hits album released in 1978 on ABC/Atlantic Records. It features tracks from the artists' solo albums as well as by the duo. The album also features #jerrygarcia (Pedal Steel), #billkreutzmann (Drums) and #PhilLesh (Bass) sitting in on "Southbound Train" and Jerry Garcia (Pedal Steel) on "Laughing." My copy is on #abcrecords - AA-1102. And, the cover’s got that textured feel. Almost like golf balls have dimples. Again, with their great list of supporting stars: #RussKunkel #timdrummond #DavidLindley #dannykortchmar #craigdoerge #jacksonbrowne #johnnybarbata #lelandsklar #jamestaylor #ChrisEthridge Joni Mitchell #caroleking and #RitaCoolidge. Remembering Jerry Garcia, born 1 August 1942. The lightning skull logo was originally designed by Owsley Stanley aka Bear, the Dead’s sound man, LSD chemist and the subject of Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan. #gratefuldead #stealyourface #jerrygarcia #phillesh #billkreutzmann #bobweir #donnajeangodchaux #keithgodchaux #psychedelicrock #folkrock #onthisdayinmusic #albumart #albumcovers #vinyl #artonpaper #brushpen #alcoholbasedmarkers (at Winterland Ballroom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSAgGMtsViO/?utm_medium=tumblr
My collection copy is on a newer WB label. (Classic album.) “The Grateful Dead” is their self-titled debut album. It was released by #warnerbrosrecords in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist #phillesh and drummer #billkreutzmann the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. This copy is on Warner Bros Records - WS 1689. On the originally prepared artwork, the writing for the top of the album cover read "In the land of the dark, the ship of the sun is drawn by the #gratefuldead ", a passage taken from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. As the book had become more widely read, some had mistakenly assumed that the band had taken their name from the quote: "We now return our souls to the creator, as we stand on the edge of eternal darkness. Let our chant fill the void in order that others may know. In the land of the night, the ship of the sun is drawn by the grateful dead." They hadn't, and because #jerrygarcia worried that it seemed "pretentious", and the band were uneasy about being seen as beholden to any specific philosophy or doctrine, they asked the artist, #stanleymouse , to stylize the script so that all but the band name were illegible. #the60s #sanfranciscomusic https://www.instagram.com/p/CLqQN-srk-R/?igshid=195jw07praygo
