EXTREMELY esoteric and specific fanart of a single part of a single episode of Red Dwarf, which turned out to be a mass hallucination anyways. I found it interesting that Sebastian and Billy Doyle share relations through their mother.

Mother’s precious golden child, Sebastian Doyle. Mother’s legitimate born son with her legitimate husband, Mr. Doyle. Mother’s perfect son with his perfect hair and perfect obedience and perfect charisma.

And……Billy Doyle. Mother’s firstborn child with who knows, who cares, does he even know? Mr. Doyle’s adopted son. Problem child. Gangly. Impossible hair. The only child on Earth to get hand-me-ups instead of the other way round.

I have a fic prompt. Explain who Duane Dibbley is in “Back to Reality.”

- Sebastian is our pretty little murder-muffin of a Voter-Colonel, and presumably the one who decided that an extended stint in an AR game would be a refreshing change from changing people.

- Billy, his alcoholic, yak-urine-smelling half-brother, is most likely along to keep him from ending up dead in the streets somewhere while Sebby is busy in the game.

- Jake probably knows Sebby from his up-and-coming days as a young, ambitious secret policeman. He could also be along as a condition of Billy’s participation, like a parole officer/personal handler. His presence can be explained somehow.

So, who the hell is Duane Dibbley?

The party is booked in as the Dibbley party. Is he a wealthy, eccentric Party backer who financed this as a favor to the Voter-Colonel? Is he Sebby’s personal bodyguard, a deadly assassin in dork’s clothing, able to dispatch an assailant using only a Thermos and a triple-thick condom, whose name is used in bookings to disguise Doyle’s involvement? Or, is he the mysterious and little-known Glorious Leader of the party, the guy who pulls all the strings and holds all the cards? Dude needs a back story!

THE BOSS

The heaviest of the songs on the EP and definitely a live favourite of ours. We wanted to express our frustration with imbalanced power dynamics in our everyday lives with a big supermassive rant of a rock song. Working in the studio with Dan Fox (Gilla Band) was fun and allowed us to experiment with getting the song to sound as spacey as we could get it - we particularly enjoyed recording the electric violin through guitar amps cranked to 10 while simultaneously manipulating a tape delay unit.

ODE TO CLIO

It took us a year to write and it’s a nonsensical collage of people and relationships we’ve encountered throughout that time - moving from serene to tumultuous, all held together by Clio’s overarching violin melody. We think it’s the centrepiece of the EP, it encapsulates the range of the sound palette we work with.
