Somer's Book Review Catch-Up

omg finally caught up on posting book reviews lmao

basically i had surgery and so stopped reading for like a month and a half ish bc i was so brain dead all the time and lost the habit briefly. but im back!

since my last review i've finished 4 more books and dnf'd 2. the 4 i read have reviews which i just posted huzzah

i won't review the 2 i dnf'd since i didn't finish them, but i will name them and briefly why i dnf'd.

You Weren't Meant to be Human by Andrew Joseph White

i was so excited for this book. i paid for it new. hated it. found the prose annoying and the main character annoying and everything about it annoying. it shouldve been grosser and weirder. i had to drag myself to 2/3s mark before i just gave up because i actively did not want to read the book anymore. i was bored and irritated

i used to listen to the jensen & holes podcast a lot. forgot this book existed, picked it up at the library bc why not. the book's fine, i guess, it just didn't keep me interested. i didn't like the writing style very much and it didn't hold my intention. i just got bored with it

okay, i didn’t watch The Tiger King but I’ve leaned about the case and it’s actually pretty unlikely that Carole Baskins killed her husband and instead he either fled the country or was killed by people he ripped off. The big cats wouldn’t have ingested the entire body and the meat grinder she supposedly had was small. Those allegations were also made by people with a vendetta against her.

Netflix just wanted the shock factor.

Whenever people ask me why I only write about unsolved murders, I always say the same thing: because I hate the guy who got away with it. But after Michelle died, it was different. People read and watch and listen to true crime because it restores order from chaos. That's the answer to give when someone asks you why you like hearing about real-life murders. It's the comfort of watching everything be put in its place after an episode of outright, sickening bedlam.
