What sports/extra-curricular activities would the basement boys do?

Billy: He is 100% a drama kid. Auditions for the school musical and gets casted as the lead with NO prior experience. You either love him, are jealous of him, or hate him

Griffin: Also a drama kid! But instead of acting, he helps build sets. Aside from participating in the drama department, he does art classes too!

Vance: Probably joined the school wrestling team if they had one. He desperately needed to find a way to get his anger out physically AND legally. Everyone’s too scared to go against him, though

Bruce: Baseball! He’s also part of the school’s yearbook team. Any time there’s a pep-rally he takes photos of everyone and when they get whiney he says “I’m from the yearbook, I have to take photos!” or some bs like that

Robin: ALSO in wrestling. He is the only one who will willingly fight Vance. They’re friends, so they don’t purposely aim to hurt each-other…but they ain’t gentle either. Of course, he only joined because he needed to keep himself out of fights

Finney: He doesn’t do baseball as a sport anymore, but he’ll play it in the backyard or with Bruce every now and then. He also assists in the library! Putting away books and such. It helps him avoid bullies since it lets him stay inside during recess

A little bit from my in-the-works Paperboy fic!!!

It was out of sheer boredom that Billy originally signed up to be the local paperboy. The pay was alright and it meant he got to exercise Harper more than once a day, something the fat old girl needed desperately.

It was to his shock that Billy learned he liked his job. He loved being up before anyone else, feeling the wind streak through his hair, the brief moment of wobbling that came with a particularly powerful throw. Learning the do's and don'ts of each street, first dibs on any bottles leftover from some neighbourhood party. It was liberating.

He got to observe each house before the bustle of day to day picked up, and there were a couple that stood out to him. Vance Hoppers house was one. The trash was always overflowing with shattered booze bottles, front window plastered over with thick slabs of masking tape. Pinball Vance, as Billy learned to call him, had a notoriously shitty father, who Billy sometimes heard screaming even in the early hours of the morning. It was hard to have any sympathy for Vance, though, who had kicked Harper one time for no reason.

Another house he found interesting belonged to the eclectic, ancient Ms Lenora. She had a lawn barely visible through the hordes of collectibles stacked on it- sun faded flamingos, chipped gnomes, old statues of Buddha, and mossy faced cherubs.

She would come out to greet him with a costume wearing cat slung over her shoulder, pyjamas in eye splitting shades of neon green and work vest orange. Ms Lenora was a peculiar woman and her lawn attracted gawkers more days than not, but she was really very lovely beneath the gaudy performance. Sometimes she gave Billy sweets.

His favourite house to visit was, unlike the other two, rather nondescript. It was a few blocks away from his own, grass neatly trimmed and gutter shining with last years Christmas lights. Nothing was interesting about it like the other houses he thought about, except the boy in the yard.
