THOMAS HOPPER as BILLY BONES
Black Sails | 1.01
This scene right here. The conversation they have only with their eyes. Charles’ willingness to sacrifice himself. The realization on Billy’s face. It makes me remember about their interaction when Charles attacked Flint’s ship and wanted Billy to join his crew. He always respected Billy and knew that he would do the right thing. So in this moment he puts his faith in Billy. And Billy doesn’t disappoint him.
A story is true, a story is untrue...as time extends, it matters less and less. The stories we want to believe, those are the ones that survive, despite upheaval and transition and progress. Those are the stories that shape history. And then what does it matter if it was true when it was born? Long John Silver’s story is a hard one to know. The men who believed most deeply in it were ultimately destroyed by it. And those who stood to benefit most from it were the most eager to leave it all behind. Until all that remains of any of it are stories bearing only a passing resemblance to the world the rest of us lived in, a world we survived, a world that is no more. -Black Sails, 2014-2017
